As the United Kingdom prepares to go to the polls for the General Election, we are committed to ensuring that our TikTok community has the skills to assess whether the information that they read, see or hear during this busy time is reliable and accurate.

Earlier this month, we were the first platform to launch a dedicated 2024 UK General Election Centre that connects our community with trusted information from the Electoral Commission on the General Election. When on TikTok, people are directed to the General Election Centre through prompts and labels on relevant election content and when making election-related searches.

Today, we are launching our Media Literacy Hub in partnership with Logically Facts, our fact-checking partners that specialise in analysing and fighting disinformation.

This in-app hub is designed to help equip our community with skills they need to critically engage with online content and explore their interests safely. This builds on our #FactCheckYourFeed campaign, which focussed on critical thinking and news literacy, covering topics such as recognising fake news online and how to consume a balanced 'news diet'.

With misinformation and disinformation being found on every corner of the internet, the hub contains guidelines which have been designed to help critique and judge the trustworthiness of the information we find online. Whenever or wherever they engage in content, we encourage our community to stop, think and check the resources.

As part of the campaign, Logically Facts have published a series of educational videos that share tips on how to spot and counter misinformation and disinformation. The hub can be accessed when a user searches for terms related to common mis/disinformation themes, such as topics related to world events.

The hub will also include videos from creators including journalist, Sophia Smith Galer (@sophiasmithgaler) and history teacher Laurie Alyce (@lauriealyceadventures), helping us to reach different audiences across our platform.

This media literacy campaign is part of our ongoing work to ensure that TikTok continues to be a creative, safe, and civil place for our community in a historic election year.

We recently added a new harmful misinformation guide to our Safety Center, which empowers our community with key information about TikTok's misinformation policies and features, as well as media literacy tips from experts.

In addition, alongside the AI-generated content (AIGC) labeling tools we provide creators, we recently announced our partnership with the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) and implemented their Content Credentials technology, which supports us in automatically labeling AIGC when it's uploaded from certain other platforms.

Finally, for some content that can't be verified and is potentially harmful, we prompt viewers to reconsider before sharing it.

Throughout 2024 and beyond, we'll continue to partner with experts and fact-checking organisations around the world to deliver engaging campaigns about misinformation, identifying AI-generated content, and more.
