Celebrating #WomenOfTikTok and advocating for The Power of We

Whether its #WomenInBusiness and #WomenEntrepreneurs inspiring critical career conversations, or #WomenInSports and #WomenInGaming challenging stereotypes and breaking boundaries, women from all walks of life use TikTok to build community, foster connections, and champion causes to advance women's equity. In 2023, we saw 1.4M posts from #WomenOfTikTok globally, increased more than 500% from the previous year, which is a testament to the impact and collective power of women in driving change on and beyond the platform.
At TikTok, we are proud and committed to fostering a safe and inclusive space for women around the world to inspire, connect and support one another. This International Women's Day and Women's History Month we celebrate our global #WomenOfTikTok community who drive change on the platform and in their communities every day with The Power of We.
Elevating our diverse communities of women
International Women's Day is a moment to celebrate the achievements of women and advancing gender equality, while also recognising the importance of inclusive community building for women.
According to a recent study, 70% of women on TikTok feel they can join groups on TikTok that they couldn't find anywhere else.* Over the past year, women across the globe have continued to build connections and communities on the platform. Popular themes that inspired the entire TikTok community in the past year include:
Women empowerment: Popular hashtags including #StrongWomen, #Her, #GirlPower, #WomenSupportingWomen continue to inspire and mobilise the entire TikTok community, with almost 4M posts.
- Creator and journalisr @sophiasmithgaler will be visiting three statues of important women from history in constituencies represented by female MPs, to discuss their positive impact, and what Women's History Month means to each MP.
- To coincide with International Women's Day and Women's History Month, we're working with @womens_aid, @refugecharity and @fairsharehome for our latest #TikTokUnpacks series. Content will focus on #InspireInclusion, a direct call to action to promote, demand and design inclusive spaces, systems, and societies for women of all backgrounds and identities, to meaningfully and equitably participate and excel.
Celebrating and recognising motherhood: There are billions of parents coming together and sharing content mentioning #MumsOfTikTok, #Pregancy, #Postpartum and #MumComedy, showing love and tribute to mums for making them who they are, while recognising the challenges of being a mum and supporting communities of mothers.
- @caitlinandleahh have shared their embryo transfer and pregnancy journey with the community through all its ups and downs, from anxious waits to exciting pregnancy updates. They always bring their trademark humour to the parenting experience too, like their sketches about family members approaching their baby .
- @midwifemarley is a practising midwife, who shares tips and support for pregnancy, birth and parenting. From explaining phenomena no one knew about - like postpartum noise sensitivity to championing the profession of midwife, she brings her expertise to the community on the daily. She's also a mum of five herself, and shares relatable clips from her own day to day too.
Entrepreneurship and women-owned businesses: Discussions around #WomenOwnedBusiness, #WomenInBusiness, and #WomenEntrepreneurs show our community are committed to supporting women-owned businesses and are inspired by women entrepreneurship.
- We're delighted to be continuing our work with The Prince's Trust to support female entrepreneurs, amnd return to the iconic Battersea Power Station on Saturday, 9 March to host a special marketplace in celebration of International Women’s Day. 15 inspiring, young women will be showcasing their businesses, all of whom have been supported by The Prince’s Trust’s Enterprise programme; a free course that helps young people to start their own business and fulfil their potential of becoming their own boss.

Women entrepreneurs and small business owners are keen to use TikTok to start and grow their businesses and reach an engaged and passionate community. We are proud to celebrate their achievements and we invite our TikTok community to be inspired by small businesses proudly owned by women.
- @kutiwacakes is a cake decorator who has been wowing our community with her intricate confections. Whether she's getting involved in the burnaway cake trend, or creating a magical fairy glade, one thing is for sure, her cakes are simply incredible.
- @modestyliving offers stunning collections of abayas and hijabs which allow you to embrace modest fashion without breaking the bank! Their mission is to empower women to express their unique style while upholding their values.
Discover women in music:
From songwriting tutorials to concert snippets, women musicians and music enthusiasts worldwide flock to TikTok to showcase their talents, share their creative process, and connect with a vibrant community. Explore #WomenInMusic by following these talented creators!
- @raye is a record-breaking trailblazer with an incredible six BRIT Awards under her belt following the TikTok smash 'Escapism' and #1 album 'My 21st Century Blues'. With over 793.2k followers, she regularly shares her on-stage performances with the community and posts videos thanking her TikTok fans for their support
- @kenyagracebaby took TikTok by storm last year with her debut single 'Strangers', which has inspired a new generation of female electronic music lovers and made her the second British female artist to top the UK charts with a self-produced song.
- @piri.v2 one of TikTok's Breakthrough Artists of 2022, piri regularly teases new music and loves interacting with fans, having built a loyal audience leading to performances at Glastonbury and Reading & Leeds.
Empower women in sports:
From training tips to game highlights, women athletes, professional players, and sports enthusiasts worldwide showcase their skills, share insights into their training routines, and connect with an enthusiastic community on TikTok. Join us to support #WomenInSports and celebrate accomplishments of those who continue to address gender disparities in the sports world!
- @mariaej0 has been sharing her fitness journey on TikTok, as well as the joy of reengaging with old hobbies. If that wasn't enough, she's also qualifying to be a personal trainer!
- @millyg_fit, shares relatable content around weight training, and the importance of listening to your body. She is also a Gymshark ambassador, and regularly shares details on the best gymwear you need to ace your workout.

From all-star developers to incredible gamers, #WomenInGaming continues to inspire and shine. From International Women's Day and beyond, we will celebrate and spotlight the talent and brilliance of women in the gaming community. - Gamer @Nintendo.Grl, aka Junna, really does seem to do it all, juggling a career in medicine alongside connecting with her followers about the latest game releases. We’re completely in awe of her talents, and if that wasn’t enough, she has built a community of over 9.2 million followers on TikTok through sharing her interests and her amazing collection of figurines.

This Women's History Month we're putting the spotlight on remarkable women and their talents by launching our 2024 IWD campaign, The Power of We.
