• More than 30 million people across the UK now use TikTok each month*, making the UK our largest user community in Europe
  • TikTok continues to grow its investment in the UK, expanding our operations with a new London office and growing our UK workforce this year to 3,000 employees
  • There are now over 1.5 million British businesses on TikTok, with Oxford Economics research finding SMEs on TikTok contributing an additional £1.6 billion to the UK economy, whilst supporting 32,000 jobs

  • More than 30 million people across the UK now use TikTok each month* - nearly half the country.

TikTok is also announcing further investment into the UK, expanding our already significant presence here with a new London office and additional jobs.

TikTok's UK workforce will grow to 3,000 this year with the addition of more than 500 jobs, and we are investing in a new 135,000 sq ft office in Barbican, London, set to open in early 2026. This will be in addition to our 88,500 sq ft Farringdon head office which we opened in 2022, and take TikTok's investment in our UK infrastructure to around £140million.

TikTok has had a deep commitment to the UK since our launch here in 2018. Our European operations are financially incorporated here, and TikTok UK is our European operating company. As a global company making investment decisions in a competitive world, TikTok carefully evaluates where it chooses to invest and expand its operations and we are pleased to be able to make these announcements today.

And it's not just through direct investment that TikTok supports the UK economy. There are more than 1.5 million UK businesses on TikTok, which contributed an additional £1.6 billion to the UK economy, whilst supporting 32,000 jobs, with SME owners on TikTok more likely to be entrepreneurs under 30 or from a diverse background than the average SME.

Commenting, Adam Presser, Director of TikTok UK and Global Head of Operations and Trust and Safety, said:

"Whether through direct investment in jobs and innovation, or the wider economic contribution from millions of British businesses on TikTok, we're pleased to be increasing our investment and presence here in the UK, an important hub for TikTok.

"What underpins our continued growth is our deep commitment to safety and to creating an enjoyable and secure digital space to sustainably support creators, entrepreneurs and the wider economy, which is why we also invest significantly in safety.

"From thriving small businesses to breakthrough music stars, from BookTok creators to viral historians, I want to thank the more than 30 million people that make TikTok the vibrant and unique community it is today in the UK."

More than 30 million UK users

In the UK we have a dynamic and diverse community of creators, small businesses and users. Our #BookTok creators have inspired a new generation of readers, with research by the UK Publishers Association finding that 59% of 16 to 25 year olds have discovered a passion for reading because of BookTok. Institutions such as the @Nationaltheatre and @thersc are bringing arts to new audiences, and we've been proud to be able to partner with and support organisations such as Children in Need and Team GB and ParalympicsGB over the years.

There's a wealth of educational and inspiring content to discover and learn from on TikTok. From learning about #history (8.9M posts) and how to propagate #plants (3.3m posts) to discovering a new #recipe (5.6M posts) or #BookTok (55.8M posts), or visiting our dedicated TikTok STEM feed, where you can find Dagenham's @big.manny1 inspiring the next generation of scientists. In a recent poll of 500 teens aged 13-17 and their parents, commissioned by TikTok and conducted by OnePoll, almost three-quarters (72%) of young people say that social media is good at teaching new skills.

TikTok has also helped launch careers and small businesses' success stories. Take the breakthrough success of British music stars like Myles Smith and Lola Young, or the Manchester cosmetics company P.Louise, which broke records generating over £1.5million in sales in a single 12-hour TikTok Shop Live event, and the online indie bookshop, Mysterious Bookcase, which recently opened their first bookshop in Bournemouth after their 'Blind Date with a Book' campaign went viral on TikTok.

    Investing in safety and security

People come to TikTok to discover creators, brands and small businesses they love, learn new things, and share their creativity. What underpins our continued growth is our continual work to protect our platform, our community, and their data.

We invest billions in safeguarding and protecting our platform every year. This includes £10bn over ten years in Project Clover, which has introduced some of the most advanced and stringent data protections anywhere in the industry. In an unprecedented step, the UK-headquartered cybersecurity company NCC Group now independently monitors, checks and validates our European data security measures around the clock - a level of independent oversight and transparency unmatched amongst online platforms.

In addition, TikTok maintains robust safety measures to protect our community. This includes strict safety and privacy settings for teen accounts, including under 16 accounts set to private by default and no access to direct messaging. We also support the individual needs of UK families through features and resources created just for them. For instance, TikTok's Family Pairing feature is an easy-to-use tool for parents to set boundaries and customisable limits that best suit their teens and family life. In March this year, we announced new features for parents and caregivers, including our 'Time Away' feature which allows parents to set a time block on TikTok to help their teens take a break. We also recently announced a default wind down feature for all under-18 users, which interrupts their TikTok feeds at 10pm with a Sleep Hours prompt and a guided meditation exercise.

As part of our ongoing work to support UK parents, we developed the Digital Safety Partnership For Families, which gives parents a template for having conversations about online safety, which we developed in partnership with UK NGO, Internet Matters, after listening to UK parents of teens who told us that 46% feel out of touch when discussing online safety.
