@mr.colitiscrohns, a.k.a Mesha, has made it his mission to educate and support those living with chronic illnesses through his TikTok.

Mesha, who uses colostomy bag, creates informative videos that break down stigmas and highlight hidden disabilities.

Following his Crohns and Colitis diagnosis Mesha has since built up an incredible 3 million followers on TikTok documenting his every day life.

From sharing his morning routine to his biggest supporters, Mesha spotlights the daily realities of life with a colostomy bag, demonstrating how anyone can be affected, whilst emphasising to his community that living with a bag is nothing to be ashamed of.

Education is a big focus of his videos, where he teaches his followers important lessons from how Crohns and Colitis affects sufferers to how to clean a stoma.

We sat down with Mesha to chat about what inspires him on a daily basis and why he chooses to share his story on TikTok.

Why do you think this has been such a big year for you on TikTok?

I think people are intrigued by medical conditions and although people have seen stoma bags on peoples bodies, they’ve never seen what’s underneath - the actual stoma. For a long time, people have associated bags with older people, but in reality there are so many young people with them! I think it’s because of this my views have been high and my account has grown.

What first inspired you to create on TikTok?

I wanted to spread awareness on a growing platform. My goal is to show people having a bag is nothing to be ashamed of and that not every disability is visible.

What do you love most about the TikTok community?

I love that it’s so diverse and everyone has something different to offer. People aren’t afraid to show their real selves and I’m amazed at how creative people on here are.

What is your goal on TikTok?

To continue to grow and give exposure to the chronically ill community.

What else or who else is on your TikTok For You feed?!

Mostly medical pages, nature and fashion. Some of my favourites are

@Dr.karanr @insecthaus_adi @wisdm8

What is your favourite TikTok you have made to date and why?

It’s got to be the one that hit 172m views, purely because that means I’m achieving my goal of reaching as many people as possible!
