TikTokSummer has always been about music. From festivals to chart topping hits, garden parties and backpacker soundtracks, Music and Summer are intrinsically linked together. We're absolutely ecstatic that, for the majority of Europe, 2022 will be the first 'normal' summer in years, but this does leave us thinking, 'what will be the breakout song of the summer?'
This is why we're excited to be re-launching 'TikTok's Summer Song of the Week', an initiative designed to champion the songs and sounds of Europe that will have you dancing across the continent. Starting 8th July, every Friday for seven weeks, one European country will choose a song to be promoted widely to the TikTok community, who in turn will also see exclusive content posted from the respective artists channels.
Tracks will also be featured on the Sounds Page, which has been transforming the way fans make, discover and engage with music and artists, helping emerging talent build a fanbase and achieve huge success both on and off TikTok. The TikTok community will be invited to make their own creations using the Summer Song of the Week. We can't wait to see the creations they come up with.
It all kicks off on Friday 8th July in the UK and we're so excited to announce the nomination of Mura Masa - blessing me feat. Pa Salieu & Skillibeng as the first Summer Song of the Week. When asked about being nominated, Mura Masa said“So thrilled that ‘blessing me’ has been picked as TikTok’s UK summer song of the week. It’s great to see people connecting with the song in real time and creating amazing videos, dances and more alongside it. Thanks to Pa and Skilli for their work on this record, and thank you everybody who’s been making creations with the sound.”
This track will be promoted across all the European markets, followed by Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden & the Netherlands to see out the summer with an absolute bang.
Speaking on the re-launch of Tiktok's Summer Song of the Week, James Underwood, Music Content Strategy & Operations for TikTok Europe said: "The music of the summer is tied to great moments and is such an important part of our lives. With a bit of normality presumed, we're really happy to be re-launching Summer Song of the Week and shining a light on some incredible artists across Europe, whilst giving the TikTok community some more great moments to enjoy in the sunshine."
We will also be offering a deep and diverse range of music programming throughout the summer, including 'Hot 50 x Summer' which launched in June and will be running for 10 weeks, ranking and tracking the most popular songs during the summer period, so by the end of the summer we'll know which songs were loved the most by our TikTok users.
From staycations, garden parties, hot days, rainy days or even summer in lockdown, there will be specific music programming for all situations. Stay tuned.
