With the Eurovision coming to a dramatic conclusion this weekend, it has been amazing to see our community embrace Europe's biggest musical event, both on the platform but also the host city Liverpool.

#Liverpool has over 55 billion views in app, as the global community comes to TikTok to share and discover this vibrant and historic city. It's time to celebrate all things #scouse!

With all eyes on Liverpool who better to speak to for this week's Creator Spotlight than @thescouseghettogourmet. Your go-to Liverpool food critic, Jerome has all the must-eat recommendations around Liverpool. So if you're after the best bread in the city, or where to head for breakfast, he has everything you need to ensure that you make the most of Liverpool's culinary scene!

With his fun and engaging content getting a big thumbs up from the TikTok community, it made perfect sense for Jerome to be one of our Visit Liverpool ambassadors as we partner with the organisation to bring a slice of Liverpool life to TikTok.

This week, we sat down with Jerome to find out how he got started on TikTok, and his best Liverpool recommendations.

If you could recommend one lunch spot to anyone visiting Liverpool this year, what would it be?

My top lunch recommendation in Liverpool would be the Duke Street Market. There are so many different cuisines under one roof. But these aren’t just any independent eateries; they produce some of the best food in the city. One of the venues is called Barnacle, which is run by the famous Paul Askew and is known for specialising in locally grown produce. It’s a real treat to eat there.

What first inspired you to create content on TikTok?

As an actor, I didn’t like being typecast or always being cast as the villain or the antagonist. So, I decided to create my own show, and write my own parts. I decided to create the world’s first Food Review Sketch Show, where different food was reviewed by different characters. For example, American Food had an American character, Frank The Yank! But, one of my characters stole the show, and has now become the main character, the one you know as, The Scouse Ghetto Gourmet.

What is your goal on TikTok?

I have a few goals on TikTok, and they kind of go hand in hand with each other. The primary goal is to entertain people and make them smile. I believe that it’s nice to be nice. Another goal is to help small or independent businesses. I love to see honest, hardworking people do well, as a result of their hard work. It’s a rewarding feeling when a business will sell out of food, after seeing my videos and giving them a visit. The main objective is to take my videos worldwide, and eventually get myself on mainstream television!

Which other Liverpool based creators on TikTok inspire you?

One of the Liverpool based creators, who inspires me is actually now a friend of mine, after meeting him at an event. His name is Iwan Steffan. He’s actually Welsh, but he’s been here long enough to be deemed an honorary Scouser. He inspires me to stay true, and to stay kind. He’s been through good times and bad times and has still come out smiling. Some people believe that good things happen to bad people, and vice versa. But Iwan is living proof that good things do happen to good people!

With Eurovision coming to Liverpool, which country would you most like to visit for a food-tour and why?

When it comes to doing a food tour, my first instinct is Italy, because my mother's side of the family is Italian and Irish. But I’d love to do a food tour of Greece or Portugal. The best food has simple ingredients, and these are two countries that stand out the most to me for this exact reason. I’ve done two food tours to Rome recently. I went twice, because on the plane back, I realised, I never got any pizza! So, I had to go back the next month for pizza and gelato!

What is on your For You feed?!

On my For You page right now? It’s a historic video of a news reporter in 1962 Britain. He’s asking the public how many cigarettes they smoke in day, and if they’re worried about the health concerns that come with smoking. Considering this was over 60 years ago, their answers are still so valid! The next video is a guy eating a pickle. The video after that is a guy who’s got music from the 1950s and put a drum and bass beat to it. It actually slaps! Haha!

What is your favourite TikTok you have made to date and why?

The favourite TikTok that I’ve created is my 200th review. Two favourite TikToks that someone else created are these two from @navijess and @jordansimons4 .

@thescouseghettogourmet My 200th Review is at Betto e Mary, Via dei Savorgnan, Rome. This was my first time in Italy, and with having Italian roots, this was long overdue. I headed to a very residential area, populated only by locals. Not a tourist is sight! This place was very popular with the locals. The mainly ordered the same as me, or the carbonara (which looked submime!). I cant wait to do a part 2 here, and show off a few more true Italian eateries! #italy #pasta #beef #fypシ #foryou #foryoupage ♬ original sound - The Scouse Ghetto Gourmet
