From #babyledweaning to#gentleparenting, our #ParentsofTikTok community shares tips and support for a whole range of parenting styles and stages. As part of our campaign celebrating these parents, today, we're spotlighting one of our amazing parenting #ParentsofTikTok ambassadors, @moonandrue.

Over the last 18 months, Sian and her daughter Rue have captured our community's hearts, with over 1.2 million followers and counting. Whether it's wholesome family content, play activities, or attempts to bake with a small child in tow, it's fair to say that many people can relate!

Sian has also shared her baby-led weaning journey, showcasing some of the incredible recipes, truths about traditional, store-bought baby foods, and ways parents can manage eating out while weaning.

This week, we sat down with Sian to chat through her thoughts on the community, her love for other parenting creators, and her TikTok goals...

First, congratulations on being named as a #ParentsofTikTok ambassador. When did you first start creating parenting content on TikTok?

Thank you! I started uploading in May 2022… it’s quite crazy to think of how much has happened in the 18 months since!

Were you surprised by the reaction from the community?

Definitely, when I started uploading I thought my audience would be my husband, Rue’s grandparents and maybe a handful of other weaning parents. I could never have predicted that so many people would join our journey! It's been lovely to have people enjoy the content and to find it useful. I get the best messages from people saying our content has helped them feel less overwhelmed and that’s an amazing feeling.

What other parenting creators on TikTok do you follow?

Too many to mention! Great play ideas from Nini (@earlyexplorer), light-hearted commentary on parenthood from Caroline (@mummysflippinhouse) and Claire Warren (@mykindamum). Family life vlogs from people like Lauren Raker (@laurenraker) and Mummy and Zozo (@mummyandzozo).

But I also love watching experts in their field who share tips on child development, like Lucy (@childrensdietitian), Speechie (@_missmichael), and Joy Marilie’s (@joymarilie) conscious parenting advice.

What is your goal on TikTok?

To keep making content I enjoy and hopefully provide value and help to parents who are weaning! I love experimenting every now and then with other topics too, like play-based learning, messy play ideas, family life etc. It’s a great platform for branching out and trying different things because it never feels too serious, or like things have to be too polished. I just want to keep having fun with it!

What is your favourite TikTok video you have made to date and why?

I feel like I can say this because every parent loves looking at photos/videos of their own child but… I love so many of them! One video I found really fun to put together was a Rue Takeover for Mother’s Day. I look back on it and smile for so many reasons.

What else is on your For You feed?!

A very eclectic mix! One video will be comedy, the next will be politics, then some home decor DIY, then someone cooking in the woods. That random variety is definitely what makes the app so fun.

Finally, if there was one piece of advice you could give to new parents, what would it be?

To trust the process and give yourself time! At first, it feels like you will never operate normally again. But you get used to the new little human, and you get used to the different person you become. You’ll find your own routines and ways of doing things. It’s definitely all worth it.
