Earlier this week we celebrated #InternationalWomensDay. Here at TikTok, we're incredibly proud of the millions of inspiring women on our platform, all of whom bring their own talents, creative ideas and stories to our community. Whether it's entrepreneurship, activism, music, food, or sport, these women are teaching us all a thing or two!

Who better to spotlight on such an important week for women than @hadealspeaks, aka Haddy. Haddy can't be defined by just one title; she's an activist for social change, a human rights spokesperson, and a flagbearer for female empowerment. If that wasn't enough, she has also just started studying law at Cambridge University.

Whether you need help with your university applications, are seeking out a nuanced discussion on political topics like patriotism, education, or powerful leaders - Haddy has got you covered. She has also been sharing sneak peeks of the amazing events she attends, including the Notting Hill carnival, presenting a show at the Barbican Centre, and seeing Rihanna at Wireless Festival. To say we are jealous is an understatement!

Alongside all of this, she also has a flourishing podcast, which is currently in its second season. 'Missed the Point', discusses politics, social issues and media stories, and their greater impacts on society. She's been sharing behind the scenes sneak peeks of filming the second season, and we can't wait for it to kick off!

This week, we found a moment in Haddy's jam packed schedule to sit down and talk to her about International Women's Day, the female creators who inspire her on TikTok, and why she joined the platform.

What does International Women's Day mean to you?

As with many other days, International Women's Day is a time of both reflection and celebration. There is much to celebrate in the achievements, determination and triumphs of women all across the world. But inevitably, this day also acts as a day of awareness for the change that is yet to come. It is a time to spotlight the many battles women, and those affected by misogyny, are fighting across the world.

International Women's Day to me personally reminds me of the incredible Sudanese "kandaka". The term Kandaka comes from the name given to ancient Nubian warrior queens. Today, it has become a term of empowerment for women in Sudan fighting for freedom from dictatorship, respect for human rights and democracy.

International Women's Day should never be confined to one type of reflection, or one kind of woman, as it is for all women in all parts of the world to be celebrated and recognised. So, International Women's Day means many different things to me. At the foundation, it is a time to recognise and celebrate women for all they give to the world!

Which other women on TikTok inspire you?

I am very inspired by by @mehek.mp4 and @holamiday. They are two women who make incredible content and are so passionate. I’m always excited to see their content on the platform.

What first inspired you to create on TikTok?

It was a new community and it seemed very concerned about the opinions of young people and users. There were initially struggles with the platform not valuing and supporting the work of activists and marginalised groups enough. But the effort to make a change, be transparent and honest, made me want to keep making content on TikTok.

Why is TikTok right for your content?

TikTok has an audience for everything! The fact that #sinktok exists tells you everything you need to know! Equally, the support for DEI and activism on the platform makes it feel like a safe place to talk about important issues. It is also a way for me to discover and explore. So, the fact that it is both a sharing and learning experience makes it a great place to create content.

What is your goal on TikTok?

To get better at making content and communicating. Also, I would love to inspire change and a culture of awareness which will empower those who want to make change and challenge inequality.

What is your favourite TikTok you have made to date and why?

My favourite was this video, as it was capturing an event that brought together so many incredible creatives to talk about the legacy of Stephen Lawrence.
