TikTok Creator Spotlight @fiaahamilton
On 10 November, BBC Children in Need will be hosting the first ever Pudsey Games - a brand new TikTok LIVE event that will see some of our biggest creators and artists take part in hilarious challenges, all to have a laugh while raising money for a good cause.
One of the creators using their talents to support Children in Need is this week's Creator Spotlight - @fiaahamilton.
TikTok LIVE is like a second-home for Fiaa, who describes herself as 'the storyteller that sings'. She's been making waves on the platform with her amazing voice, with almost 200k views on some of her videos.
Alongside sharing musical talents with the community, her daily LIVEs are all about providing feel good vibes for her community, with an emphasis on positive mental health.
Children in Need has a particularly special place in Fiaa's heart, as she received support from the charity while growing up in care herself. Now, she's helping them to fundraise for other children across the world by creating exclusive content for the TikTok x Children in Need campaign.
We sat down with Fiaa to chat about all things TikTok LIVE, her future aspirations, and advice she'd give to others looking to build a community on TikTok.
What is your favourite thing about LIVE content on TikTok?
My favourite thing is being able to come together with people all over the world and connect with people that may not be able to go to a live show, but they can join our live streams. It’s an inclusive platform that really does bring people together and lighten up their lives. It also brightens my days too!
I love meeting new people and learning about them. It helps me write real storytelling songs and inspires me to help others even more through music. I see the benefits it gives to people’s mental health. If I can be that daily light for people at the same time as showing my music, then I’m winning because life truly is about helping humanity with your soul purpose and that’s what going live on Tik Tok does!
I also love the support the app gives to live streamers, it’s a friendly place and there is a lot to protect us. It’s a safe place for everyone.
Why did you decide to start creating content on TikTok?
Honestly I never had the confidence until this year. For me I never cared about being famous or seen, I just wanted to make music to help people, so I hid away from any limelight. When I started to post on TikTok I began to see the impact it was having on others and my confidence, so much that I am now getting ready to release my music that I was too scared to once show!
It’s also really fun! I think as music artists there is a little bit of stigma around making content for TikTok because most of us just want to spend our time making songs, but the truth is it’s not time consuming at all when you are being completely yourself. It’s just getting your phone out and showing off your normal life. It’s better to be raw and organic and it’s actually helped me to understand who I am and be unique and just Fiaa!
Also, having been an independent artist for so long, I worried about finding the saving grace in my career - the big hand to help me achieve my dreams - but the truth is you are that hand! And TikTok is a platform to help you be the saviour of your own dreams.
If I can give a message to other music artists right now I’d say just be you! Don’t hold back, be your own path! And post it <3
What is your goal on TikTok?
To just be me, make music, show my music, help people and live the life I’ve always dreamt of. I have a show called the rise show on TikTok. In the AM it’s the sunrise show, in the PM it’s the moonrise show. It’s called the rise show so we can all rise together hehe (cheesy I know) but it’s true, I want to rise with people!
This world needs more equality. I grew up in care and I’ve been told my whole life I shouldn’t be chasing a dream that isn’t for the under-privileged, but I never chose to listen, I worked 48 hours a week to support myself and still made music, did a degree in songwriting and a masters in vocals to be the best version of me in my art and I didn’t settle for excuses. I was tired but I always knew what my soul purpose was and that I could help others to feel powerful through my music, so yeah I basically hope to keep rising and help others to rise on TikTok!
What is your favourite TikTok video you have made to date and why?
I don’t think I’ve made it yet! I’ve started making content on a Monday called Movie Mondays where I write songs about whatever film I watched on a Sunday. I’m excited about what’s to come with these, I also love day in a lifes! They are super easy to make. Lastly, I love showing the world emotional moments with people on my lives. I always post these, there’s a couple when I showed my song called “my mind” to people that wanted or needed to hear it. That’s really special to see how touched they are and how I am helping them in that moment!
What piece of advice would you give to someone interested in TikTok or TikTok LIVE?
Just do it! Don’t expect overnight success, do it because you want to give something special to the world and that something special is a part of the unique you.
Finally, what else is on your For You feed?!
Lots of inspirational quotes, amazing songs and voices and a lot of rosemary oil lol. That stuff is actually really good ya know!
