Here at TikTok, we know how important it is to find ways to switch off, unwind and relax, so we're loving TikTok sisters and literary buffs @alifeofliterature, run by Mireille and Elodie. The pair help their thousands of followers escape into a different world through the magic of story telling.

Whether you're looking for the best summer reads or books to get you through to the end of lockdown, bookworms Mireille and Elodie have got you covered. They share all the must read books on TikTok, with honest reviews, so you're sure to find one that takes your fancy.

The pair's account demonstrates just how fun reading can be and makes it accessible for everyone, through their inspiring 'convincing you to read books based on their aesthetic' and 'Beautiful words and their definitions' series.

By using songs, pictures, and even impersonating book characters, A Life of Literature has fans captivated by a book before they've even picked it up! Check out their account and you'll struggle to pick which book you want to read first on your literary journey.

In our latest TikTok Creator Spotlight, we chatted with Mireille and Elodie to learn all about the rise of #BookTok and which books we absolutely need to get our hands on...

What do you love most about TikTok?

Tiktok is such a diverse platform and we love that people can demonstrate their creativity in short video stories. More and more people are using TikTok to show their hobbies and discover interests - #BookTok is a great example of this. It's really inspiring to see how it is having a big impact on audiences.

Why is TikTok right for your content?

You would think that reading, a solitary activity, wouldn't suit TikTok, a loud, content-brimming app. But funnily enough, it works perfectly.

By visualising a book's pages through a range of aesthetic imagery and music, users on TikTok really catch onto what reading is all about.

Nowadays, seeing the front cover and blurb of a novel isn't enough to captivate younger audiences, so we have taken a more modern approach of actively persuading, that fully engages teenagers.

What is your favourite effect?

Definitely the photo green screen! Without it, we wouldn't have been able to create some of our most popular videos.

What is your goal on TikTok?

Our mission is to continue sharing our love for reading with the world. We want teenagers to know that reading is so much more than just pages of paper, and that it is nothing like school! Reading is so much more than that.

BookTok has found a way of crossing the divide between social media and literature for the younger generation and we have taken this opportunity to promote books that deserve to be seen, and literature as a whole.

Who do you follow/what is on your TikTok feed?

All things literary take up our feed, most likely because we follow all the other BookTokers. Our favourite accounts are: @thebooksiveloved @caitsbooks @aymansbooks

What is your favourite TikTok and why?

Our favourite TikTok has to be for 'We Were Liars' by E. Lockhart. It is our biggest video so far, and has led us to all these new opportunities.

What do you love most about the Book Tok Community and why?

Everyone is so welcoming and supportive and it's great to find so many people with the same interests.
