Today we're launching new initiatives to champion well-being and enhance reliable mental health information from trusted sources on TikTok. We're launching in-app guided meditation exercises for our entire community and expanding our Mental Health Education Fund.

Bringing in-app meditation to our entire community

We recently announced a feature test to encourage young people to switch off at night. In our testing, 98% of the teens kept the meditation experience switched on.

Research shows us that mindful meditation can improve sleep quality in people of all ages, so we'll also introduce meditation in Sleep Hours to all our users, regardless of their age. For teens under age 18, it will be turned on by default. If a teen decides to use TikTok after 10pm, their For You feed will be interrupted by a guided meditation exercise, helping them wind down for the night. If a teen decides to spend additional time on TikTok after the first reminder, we show a second, harder to dismiss, full-screen prompt.

Adults can turn on Sleep Hours at any time from the Screen Time settings page.

In a recent poll of 500 teens aged 13-17 and their parents, commissioned by TikTok and conducted by OnePoll, we found that breathing techniques and meditation are among the top skills that teens are picking up from social media, with one in three saying they would be willing to try meditation (35%) or mindfulness (33%) to relax.

This also comes as almost three-quarters (72%) of young people agree that social media is a good place to learn new skills, with online platforms increasingly being used to learn skills to help rest, recharge, and reset. In addition, two thirds (66%) acknowledged it’s important to switch off from social media, and our meditation tools are there to support our users to know when to wind down.

Launching the 2025 Mental Health Media Education Fund

Today, we are unveiling a $2.3 million donation in ad credits to 31 mental health organisations in 22 countries around the world as part of our Mental Health Education Fund. In combination with training provided by TikTok, this funding will help these organisations create even more informative and engaging mental health content for audiences globally. In the UK, the organisations benefiting from this support are:

  • Mind (@mindcharity), a mental health charity that provides advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem.
  • Calm (Campaign Against Living Miserably) (@calmzone), a suicide prevention charity, offering support for anyone struggling and campaigning to change the conversation around mental health.

We created the Mental Health Education Fund in 2023 to support organisations in creating authoritative, engaging and uplifting mental health content. The Fund has helped organisations gain more than 173 million impressions on their content, more than 600,000 new followers for their accounts, prompted more than 200,000 web visits, and helped recruit 486 new volunteers, thanks to a combined £5.5 million ($7.3 million) in donations.

Valiant Richey, Global Head of Outreach and Partnerships, Trust & Safety, at TikTok said: "Millions of people turn to TikTok to share their well-being journeys, explore practices like mindfulness, and find connection. To further support our community, we'll be prompting people to wind down for the night with our new guided meditation feature, and expanding our Mental Health Education Fund to 22 countries around the world."

Andrew Berrie, Head of Corporate Partnerships for Mind said: “We are delighted that TikTok have chosen to support Mind in being there for those of us with a mental health problem. We're in the middle of a mental health crisis so partnerships like this one are more important than ever. Together with TikTok, we can raise awareness of the support Mind provides and we can work towards our vision of creating a future where no mind is left behind.”

By bringing guided meditation to everyone on TikTok, and further supporting the work of mental health organisations around the world, we're once again demonstrating the positive power of the TikTok community. Whether it be through #GivingSzn charity drives , STEM feed learning moments, or responding to AMBER alerts to help recover missing children.
