At TikTok, we know our community loves music from all genres, both new and old. We saw it just last month when Fleetwood Mac’s 'Dreams' re-entered the UK charts for the first time since 1988, after featuring in that now-world famous TikTok video. Not to mention that a whole host of noughties tracks, including classics like Nelly Furtado’s ‘Promiscuous’ and Avril Lavigne’s ‘Girlfriend’, recently went viral as a result of new TikTok trends!

Now, we're rewinding a few more decades and launching the #BackToTheMusic challenge so that you can recreate iconic scenes from music videos across the 80s, 90s and 00s.

Whether it's channelling some serious Girl Power for 'Wannabe' or reliving your crazy last '7 Days' with a bit of help from Craig David, there's so many iconic moments for users to pick from. Every Thursday, starting today, we’ll choose a different decade of music for the challenge, bringing back the groove with 80s music videos, followed by the 90s and then the 00s over the next two weeks.

If you're looking for inspiration, check out Rick Astley bringing back his classic 'Never Gonna Give You Up'

Or if you're feeling adventurous, why not go for a duet

Or if you're looking to get your friends and family involved then how about roping them in as backing dancers? Just like Alison Hammond in her parody of Kylie Minogue's 'Can't Get You Out of My Head'

Getting involved couldn’t be easier - just pick a decade- or three- and choose your music video! All you need is the track of your choice, selected from our extensive TikTok Sounds page collection, and a bit of creativity (which we know you have!) and you’re good to go! We can't wait to see how you'll take us #backtothemusic!

Music is an integral part of TikTok - in fact, music superstar Dua Lipa tapped into the creativity of the TikTok community for a real life music video; her song 'Levitating'. There's been plenty of other exciting TikTok music news of late - George Michael's music is now available on the TikTok sounds library (did somebody say 'Freedom '90'?) alongside the hits of John Lennon to celebrate his 80th birthday.

New to TikTok and can’t wait to get involved in some nostalgic throwbacks? Getting involved couldn't be easier, simply download the app for free via the Apple App Store, Google Play or Amazon.
