Looking for tips to make your January budget go further? Meet Caz Mooney, known on TikTok for her budgeting advice as @irishbudgeting.

Caz first took to TikTok to document how her family was budgeting on a single income. Now with more than 45k TikTok followers, Caz has become a viral budgeting creator and has featured in RTE and the Irish Times.

Alongside her fame on TikTok, she recently launched a book titled ‘Caz Mooney’s Irish Budgeting Planner’ which is due to be released in April 2023. She was also featured amongst Ireland’s top creators in the Year on TikTok 2022 list.

This week, we sat down with Caz to chat all about her budgeting advice, TikTok goals and other creators she is loving on TikTok.

We love your content! If you could share one piece of money-saving advice what would it be?

One of the most effective tools for saving money I’ve found is to divide your spending into categories, either physically using cash or digitally using online saving pots. Allocating a certain amount then to food, travel, personal, etc, means that when that money is gone, it’s gone, making spending much more intentional.

What first inspired you to create on TikTok?

I started anonymously as I wanted to share how we were budgeting on a single income. I was aware that there may be other families like mine trying to manage in similar circumstances. As I started connecting with people who were watching, I started to share more of myself and our journey.

Have you been surprised by the response to your content?

Absolutely! It’s been a year now since I started and the response has been phenomenal. I’ve had so many pinch-me moments and have connected with so many wonderful people along the way.

What is your goal on TikTok?

My goal is to help simplify budgeting and encourage everyone to take control of their finances! It’s amazing what you can achieve with your money once you start taking back that control!

What other creators are on your For You feed?

I love a wide variety of creators!

  1. Edgar Kirby [@edgarkirby] shares what I eat in a day videos, and has the most charismatic personality! His videos always put me in the best mood!
  2. Alice (18!!) [@fromscratchbaker] is such an inspiration, she bought an old horse box, has restored and converted it into a portable bakery and is now using it to sell her delicious baked treats! 2023 is going to be a big year for her I’m sure.
  3. Shauna [@homediydiary] shares her home DIY projects which are inspiring and, of course, budget-friendly!
  4. Simon [@simonakeroydgardener] is the author of many gardening books and I particularly love his videos showing how to grow your own fruit and vegetables from leftovers.

What do you love most about the TikTok community?

There is a relaxed feeling. Everyone is themselves and there is a realness that you just don’t get anywhere else. I also love the conversations in the comments!

What is your favourite TikTok you have made to date and why?

The TikTok I made to announce that we were debt free apart from our mortgage in October 2022 because it felt like such a milestone and I hope it continues to inspire people also hoping to clear their debt in 2023!

@irishbudgeting . That last debt was cleared today, that 5 year loan is gone in 10 months! . What an amazing feeling!! . We have plans for the next step, but for now we celebrate!!!🎉 . Thank you for all your messages, likes, comments and support!! I hope I have helped some of you in some way, as you have me💕 . . . . . . #debtfree #weredebtfree #nomoredebt #budgeting #savings #irishbudgeting #cazmooney #financialfreedom #wedidit #debtfreescream ♬ original sound - irishbudgeting

A close second would be announcing my book in December 2022.  Never in a million years did I think I would be announcing my own budgeting book, what a moment!
