Creative and joyful experiences on TikTok start with feeling safe. That's why more than 40,000 trust and safety professionals around the world are dedicated to keeping our platform safe, and we're investing more than $2bn globally in trust and safety this year.

In addition to keeping our community up to date on our safety efforts through our detailed quarterly Community Guidelines Enforcement Reports, we are today publishing our second Digital Services Act transparency report, which is focused on how we moderate content across the EU27 member states.

Key insights from this latest report, which covers the period from October to December 2023, include:

  • Removing violative content and accounts: Across the 27 EU Member States, we removed approximately 13m pieces of content, including videos, livestreams and ads, for violating our Community Guidelines and our ad policies. We also banned more than 3m accounts for breaking our rules.
  • Taking action against illegal content: Last year, as part of our compliance with the DSA, we started to provide our European community with the ability to report suspected illegal content for review. During the report's time period, more than 60k unique pieces of content were reported to us. Of these, about 17% were removed for violating our Community Guidelines, and a further 21% were restricted for being in violation of the law.
  • Continuing to invest in local moderation: While automated technology accounts for a large majority of the content moderation decisions we make, moderation teams continue to play an important role, especially when it comes to more nuanced and complex rules such as harmful misinformation. More than 6k moderators are dedicated to the moderation of content in the European Union as of the end of December 2023.

Providing these detailed, quarterly assessments of our safety efforts - both through the DSA and the Code of Practice on Disinformation - shows our ongoing commitment to being transparent about how we keep TikTok an entertaining and joyful place for our 142m-strong European community.
