We recently partnered with FAME Week Africa, the ultimate celebration of African creativity spanning film, television, animation, music, fashion, and entertainment technology. The event offered a vital platform where African creatives showcased their rich stories, culture, and talent to the world, a mission that perfectly aligns with TikTok’s power to fuel discovery and celebrate diverse storytelling across the continent.

This year, we hosted a TikTok panel titled 'From Fans to Filmmakers: The Power of TikTok Fandom in Storytelling and Industry Influence' moderated by Vivian Chuene, Publisher Partnerships Lead Sub-Saharan Africa at TikTok, featuring TikTok Creators, Tricia Mpisi, Filmmaker and Content Creator, Chance Ntombela, Author/Film Creator, Renaldo Schwarp, Senior Manager for Multiplatform Video, Multichoice Group and Boniswa Sidwaba, Head of Content Operations, Sub-Saharan Africa at TikTok. We were the proud sponsors of the Best Short Film Award at the FAME Shorts Film Festival. This accolade recognised cinematic excellence, rewarding films that exemplify outstanding storytelling, direction, performance, and impact. The winner of this award beautifully exemplified how storytelling fuels not only entertainment but also deep cultural connection which can be shared on platforms like TikTok.

Boniswa Sidwaba, Head of Content Operations for Sub-Saharan Africa at TikTok, expressed that “TikTok is home to some of the most engaging storytellers who don’t just entertain, they influence culture and shape conversations. FAME Week Africa amplifies these creators’ voices, enabling their stories to reach new audiences and inspire a global community of fans and filmmakers alike.”

Director Abbesi Akhamie, winner of the Best Short Film at FAME Shorts, celebrated the recognition as a milestone, marking her first award after the film's premiere at several international festivals. “It feels very special to be recognised by FAME Week,” she shared. “This win is for Africa! FAME Shorts is carving a space for loud and unapologetic African voices to be heard globally. Whether through fashion, hair or film, the African continent is the hotspot of filmmaking and we are proving it. Our team worked hard to create this film and we are proud to walk away with these accolades."

As a platform, we have redefined entertainment marketing by enabling fans, creators, and studios to co-create and amplify content in ways that resonate emotionally and authentically. The platform is the #1 source of discovery for new movies and shows, where a billion users connect around creative storytelling personalised just for them through our 'For You Feed'.

From fans to filmmakers, and hashtags such as #WhatToWatch (5.5m posts), #FilmTok (2.1m posts) and #MovieTok (1.5m posts), TikTok showcases how storytelling powered by genuine community and discovery creates cultural moments that transcend screens shaping the future of African entertainment on a global stage.

We’re excited to continue supporting and celebrating African creatives as their stories travel from TikTok’s For You Feed to audiences everywhere.
