At TikTok, we believe that our digital experiences should bring us joy, entertainment, connection and enrichment. Having a positive relationship with digital devices and apps isn't just about measuring screen time, it's also about feeling in control of how we use technology and ensuring that the time we spend online contributes positively to our sense of well-being.

Today, we’re introducing a brand new feature called Well-being Missions. These are a series of short, engaging missions designed to help people develop long-term balanced digital habits. As people complete missions, they earn badges that encourage and reinforce mindful behaviors. The first set focuses on awareness of our Digital Well-being tools—but that’s only the start. We'll continue to build more missions in the coming months.

As a platform loved by millions of people around the world, we aim to empower people to manage their time online in a way that feels right to them. That’s why we’ve built features like Screen Time Management and Sleep Hours — tools that make it easy for people to create digital routines that work for them. We also recognize that long-term change often comes not just from restriction, but from positive reinforcement: building habits through encouragement, education, and a sense of progress. We consulted existing research, guidance from our global Youth Council, and conversations with experts like those from the Digital Wellness Lab at Boston Children’s Hospital to develop our idea.

In early testing, we've seen encouraging levels of interest in this new feature. With no in-app promotion, nearly 40% of people who came across the entry point chose to explore Well-being Missions. We also saw that more interactive formats, like quizzes and flashcards, were especially well received. These early results show strong potential for how we can support the development of balanced digital habits at scale.

We're continuing to innovate and explore how we can support the well-being of our community. We are beginning to build a new in-app experience focused on digital well-being - one that brings together a range of supportive tools and activities in a holistic and accessible way. The experience will include a dedicated space within the app and also integrate more deeply throughout the TikTok experience. In early testing, we are exploring tools like breathing exercises, calming audio tracks, and screen time insights to help people pause, recharge, and use TikTok intentionally. This will add to existing well-being initiatives, like the meditation feature in Sleep Hours that we recently launched. We are excited about the potential of this direction and look forward to sharing more as we continue testing and learning.
