As part of our continued efforts to celebrate #BlackTikTok, who better to interview for our creator spotlight this week than @tolu_ibixx

Tolu is one of the stars of our Been Doing It campaign, which highlights the many different elements of Black culture that are thriving on TikTok.

As well as being one of the faces of the Been Doing It campaign, Tolu is a content creator who rose to prominence following a viral video with two friends imitiating a Dublin accent that was featured on the Late Late Show. Posting from Dublin, Tolu's content includes a range of content from entertainment as well as her experiences of being a black woman in Ireland.

We sat down withTolu to chat about everything Black History Month, and what content and creators inspire her on TikTok .

What does Black History mean to you?

Black History Month allows me to remember all the Black people that have contributed positively to our world. There are so many great Black people and it allows me to look beyond the slavery and the struggle.

Why does TikTok work well for your content?

TikTok works well for my content as it has made me realise that there are so many people that are similar to myself. It also allows my content to be shared with others and people will be able to learn and understand my personality.

What first inspired you to create on TikTok?

I was always into making YouTube videos but it became a bit stressful and too long. I felt like TikTok would be a better suit for myself as I’m still able to upload content but they don’t have to be as stressful or as long. I also noticed that a lot of people really enjoy short videos and a few seconds of a recording can do a lot!

What is your goal on TikTok?

My goal is to become known and loved for my personality by millions all over the world. Creating TikTok videos is definitely something I enjoy doing and I want the world to see this.

What other Black creators are on your For You feed?

To be honest, the majority of my fyp are Black creators. The majority are from Ireland, UK, America.

What do you love most about the TikTok community?

What I love the most is when I watch a video and then I think of something in my mind and then I go to the comments and see that I wasn’t the only one thinking that!

What is your favourite TikTok you have made to date and why?

I definitely have a good few favourites. One of them being what got me and my friends on the Late Late show and got us many other opportunities. But my favourite of all time is probably “Different ways to style your bonnet”. I didn’t even think too much about this video before I uploaded it. It’s just something that came to my mind while I was on FaceTime. I had my bonnet up in a bun and my friends were laughing about it so I quickly recorded the video and uploaded it straight away. After uploading it I saw it everywhere - Hundreds of accounts were uploading the video and tagging me.
