When people use TikTok, we know they expect an experience that is fun, authentic, and safe. As part of our ongoing commitment to providing users with features and resources to have the best experience on TikTok, we are announcing Family Safety Mode, a new feature to help parents and guardians keep their teens safe on TikTok.
How it works
Family Safety Mode links a parent's TikTok account to their teen's and once enabled, they will be able to control Digital Wellbeing features, including:
- Screen Time Management: Control how long their teen can spend on TikTok each day.
- Direct Messages: Limit who can send messages to the connected account or turn off direct messaging completely.
- Restricted Mode: Restrict the appearance of content that may not be appropriate for all audiences.
Screen Time Management in Feed
As part of our commitment to safety, the wellbeing of our users is incredibly important to us. We want people to have fun on TikTok, but it's also important for our community to look after their wellbeing which means having a healthy relationship with online apps and services.
In April 2019 we introduced Screen Time Management to help people set limits for how long they spend on TikTok each day, and today we are launching Screen Time Management in Feed. We have partnered with some of our most followed and loved creators to create unique and proactive in-app prompts that remind our community to be aware of the time they spend on TikTok and to encourage them to consider taking some time out.
We will keep introducing ways to keep our community safe so they can stay focused on what matters to them – creating, sharing, and enjoying the creativity of TikTok's community.
Our new screen time management videos are the latest addition to TikTok's 'You're in Control' safety video series. Staring popular creators, this series was designed with the user in mind and offers a fun, informative look at some of TikTok's safety features and best practices. Further resources to help our community promote a safe environment can be found in our Safety Centre, safety blogposts and the TikTok safety video channel, @TikTokTips.
Family Safety Mode and Screentime Management in Feed are already available in the UK today. Both features will begin to roll out to additional European markets in the coming weeks.
