#ComedyTok has become a real cornerstone of TiKTok with #Comedy having a massive 910.3M posts, and #TikTokComedy having 2.8M. Naturally, Irish creators have taken to the #ComedyTok community so this month we’re highlighting some of the stand-out Irish comedy creators, starting with @kayleightrappe, who has gained popularity posting her quintessentially Irish ‘Skits and Giggles.’ Read more below!
Q: How did you get into comedy, and what motivated you to share it on TikTok specifically? A: I’ve always been a messer. I never planned for my content to be funny, but I suppose it’s the little quirks of it that make it so. TikTok was an easy outlet and I just popped videos up for the craic without a plan to begin with. Now I’ve made a living from being a bluffer!
Q: What is your favourite TikTok you have made to date and why? A: Oh I would say the Victoria and David Beckham lip sync! Mainly because it was so quick to make but had great engagement. People kept asking me where I bought my Victoria shirt but it’s my fathers white shirt he wears to weddings. Seamie Trappe - Fashion Icon.
Q: Which other TikTok creators inspire you? A: I love @tadhgflemming and the Fleming family! They’re raw, what you see is what you get, and the overlap is brilliant for my content. I also love @garron_music and @annaliviahynds - they are national treasures.
Q: What do you love about the Irish TikTok community? A: Originality. One minute I’m watching someone shove a garlic clove up their nose, and the next person is reviewing different tiers of ice lollies. I love silly humour.
Q: What is the best thing about being a TikTok comedy creator? A: You can try anything and not take yourself too seriously. The world has gone very serious and we all need to cheer up and have a bit of fun.
Q: What are your next steps in 2024 as a comedian? A: I’d love to add more strings to my bow and do more live work/gigs!
Q: What is the next live act you are most looking forward to? A: I’m absolutely dying to see @tommytiernan in action.
