Today, on the 22nd April, we celebrate Stephen Lawrence Day, 29 years after his death. This day recognises the life and legacy of Stephen Lawrence and the vital work his family have delivered to support the need to create a society where everyone can flourish, be treated with fairness and be respected equally.
Last year, to mark Stephen Lawrence Day, we hosted a series of activations across our platform, in partnership with the Stephen Lawrence Day Foundation, including a LIVE memorial concert and a hashtag challenge #LiveYourBestLife, to remind our community of their worth and the contributions they can make in their everyday lives.
It was amazing to see all corners of our community come together and celebrate Stephen's life and raise awareness of inequalities that exist in our society. We saw moving contributions from high profile figures including footballer Ian Wright, sports pundit Ugo Monye, and British rapper and activist Akala.
This year, we are honoured to be partnering again with The Stephen Lawrence Day Foundation, to use our platform to help bring Stephen's story and the important work the Foundation does to our community.
It's up to all of us to create a community that we want to live in, and advocate for a fairer and inclusive society for all.
To mark Stephen Lawrence Day, @TikTok_UK will be hosting an exclusive LIVE panel with @SLDF in partnership with adidas featuring athletes, public figures and TikTok creators including Kayne Kawasaki, Simply Sayo, Jourds, Ugo Monye and Anthony Yarde.
Tune in from 20:00 GMT to learn about the important work of the Stephen Lawrence Day Foundation, what Legacy of Change means to our community and how we can all support this worthwhile mission.
To honour the impact Stephen Lawrence has had on building an inclusive society, we've also launched a #TikTokUnpacks series featuring some of TikTok's biggest voices including content from @zai_rambles and @simply_sayo and partners @ukblackpride and @thy.self.
