Last month TikTok launched #Rap, the first in a series of evergreen Genre Hashtags to be placed centre stage on TikTok.
Over the past few weeks, the likes of AJ Tracey, Aitch, Queen Millz, Young Adz, Reapz and Tia Carys have all gotten involved to celebrate all things #Rap. We've loved seeing their freestyles, hearing their new music and getting an insight into their lives.
Introducing Oi TikTok: our new Rap show
Now, we're excited to unveil Oi TikTok - a dedicated, three-part rap show live on TikTok. A home for UK Rap music and culture, the shows feature interviews, performances from established and emerging artists, comedy shorts and lots more.
At just 22 years old, Dréya Mac has become one of TikTok's breakout stars, sharing her music and her life with the 1.4m fans who follow and love her content. In 2021, her track with FelixThe1st, "Own Brand Freestyle", massively took off in the UK and around the world, with almost 6 million video creations and hitting #3 on the Global Viral 50 Spotify Chart. Her honest, warm and unabashed style makes her the perfect guest to feature on our first Oi TikTok show.
We're excited to announce that JD Sports is also lending their support for the show. A long standing champion of British music, they're bringing their own 'Crep-Cam' to the show, as well as featuring familiar faces from the JD fam in each episode.
You can tune into the first show on Dréya's TikTok channel. We've got two more shows to come on 1st and 8th June, with secret special guests that we'll be revealing soon.
The shows have been produced and co-created by industry heavyweights, Out Since Tuesday, a London-based creative house that lives and breathes culture, with roots in production, experiential and collaborative creative expression. Working with brands such as with brands like HypeBeast, New Balance, Google and Samsung.
Our #Rap campaign on TikTok
This month, we've also brought in the almighty Russ Millions to lead our #Rap campaign, hot off his new record deal with Since93 & Dream Life Records. He's been previewing his new single 'Baba' on TikTok, set to land this week, and recently dropped a new remix with rising star, Cat Burns. He told us: "I'm gassed and grateful to be the face of #rap on TikTok."
Parris OH, Artist Manager at TikTok said: "We've been thrilled by the response to our new #Rap campaign - the fresh freestyles, the banter, the vibes and more - and our community has loved every minute of it. We wanted to take this even further to bring a new kind of entertainment to our TikTok community, celebrating UK Rap culture with some of the best young talents in the business, alongside the team at JD Sports. We've got some exciting plans coming up, with some big surprises that we're confident Rap fans will love."
Peter Cowgill, JD Executive Chair, added: “JD is delighted to be supporting the launch of Oi TikTok.
“Our partnership with TikTok goes from strength to strength as we continue to deliver unique, engaging, and entertaining content with the platform.
“As a brand, JD has a long-standing association with rap music, youth culture and fashion, so this collaboration aligns closely with our core values as we continue to champion the UK rap scene, as well as support grassroots talent.”
Tune in to the first edition of Oi TikTok on @dréyamac on Wednesday 25th May at 7pm BST.
