TikTok Creator spotlight @tatty.macleod
The Edinburgh Festival Fringe officially kicks off this week, and TikTok is proud to return as the Official Virtual Stage for 2023.
We'll be working with this iconic event for the second year running, helping to bring Fringe artists and shows to even bigger audiences than ever before through TikTok's global community.
Throughout August, we're placing the spotlight on some of the amazing creators that are taking their talents to the stage at the Edinburgh Fringe.
We're kicking off with everyone's favourite bilingual comedian, @tatty.mcleod! Born in Zimbabwe and raised in France to British parents, Tatty has a unique perspective on modern life and brings that to her hilarious sketches and skits.
Tatty is bringing her astute observations about British and French culture to the stage in her show 'Fugue' at Monkey Barrel. We sat down with Tatty ahead of her show to talk about all things Fringe and TikTok.
We are very excited to see you at the Fringe Festival! How does a live audience compare to sharing comedy on TikTok?
The highs and lows are more extreme with a live audience because there is nowhere to hide. If a video doesn’t get many views it’s a bit disappointing, whereas if no one laughs during your set… it’s horrific. On the flip side, if a video goes viral that feels amazing, whereas if you have a great show that feels…euphoric.
Why did you decide to start creating content on TikTok?
During the pandemic when we couldn’t get up in front of people and perform live comedy, TikTok was the perfect creative outlet!
What other comedy creators on TikTok do you follow?
There is so much talent on TikTok it’s difficult to boil it down to only a few but @CharleyMarlowe, @jonathanbynoe and @ejhavingfun are stupidly funny! And a few brilliant comedians who are also at the fringe @freyamallardcomedy and @chrxstopherhall.
What is your goal on TikTok?
Have fun and make people laugh! If after watching my videos people decide they want to come see my live show then that’s a bonus!
What is your favourite TikTok video you have made to date and why?
I made a “Day in the Life of a French Woman” - where I narrated a video diary of a melancholy Parisian woman and I just loved making it and it made me laugh. If you’re having fun making it, it’s going to be a good video.
What else is on your For You feed?!
Baking videos even though I never ever bake and make-up tutorials even though I’ve been using the same three products since I was 16 and haven’t even got my head round the concept of a “primer”.
Finally, any top tips for first time visitors to the Fringe Festival this year?
Comfortable shoes. Warm jumpers. Waterproof coats. It’s four seasons in a day weather here. And obviously: come see my show!
