Last Thursday, #Hanukkah celebrations began around the world. Hanukkah, or Chanukah in Hebrew, is the Jewish festival of light and is an eight-day long celebration.
As the festival continues this week, our #Jewish community has been coming together to share how they celebrate this special time, the history behind the festival and its significance for the Jewish community.
So, we're spotlighting a creator who has been doing just that! @dave_tester is a creator sharing travel vlogs and food recomendations from around the UK and beyond with his TikTok audience.
Over the past week, he's been shining a light on Hannukkah, and what he's been doing on each day of the festival. From visiting family and picking up bagels, to spending time with friends, it's been a privilege to see how he's been celebrating this important moment.
We sat down with @dave_tester to chat through all things #Hanukkah, TikTok's Jewish community, and his goals on TikTok.
Firstly, Happy Hanukkah! Tell us what you will be eating or where you will be eating, this year to celebrate?
Hanukkah? Barely know ‘er! (Thank you!) I’m doing a full tour this year and decided to document the full eight nights for TikTok! I went to some friends for dinner on the first night, my parents at the weekend and attempted some cooking for myself! My mum recently had a hip operation, so my dad took over the kitchen this year and his latkes were spot on!
What other Jewish creators do you follow on TikTok?
My go-to every time is @jessieware and her mum with @tablemannerspodcast - the relationship Jessie has with her mum is very relatable, as is their food obsession!
What is your goal on TikTok?
To have a laugh! If you’ve seen any of my TikTok’s you’ll probably have noticed that I crack myself up... and if I can make others laugh along the way then happy days.
What is your favourite TikTok video you have made to date and why?
Like I said - I find myself pretty funny so I like them all but it’s probably the video I made about “where to find the best bagels in London” - it was the first TikTok I made that seemed to go down well, and is something I feel passionately about...I’m in that bagel shop daily! I’d probably edit it in a different way now, but it’s a good reminder of how my content has evolved while I’ve been figuring this stuff out! I was also pretty proud of my French onion beef brisket - it was delish.
What else is on your For You feed?!
It’s a mix between Real Housewives, New York penthouses I’ll never afford, and drag queens (no, real housewives don’t count as drag queens in this context.. except maybe Countess Luann).
Finally, if you could recommend one place for us to try in 2024 where would it be?!
That’s a tough one as there’s so many amazing restaurants in London - my list of places to try is ever-growing! But I think one of my favourites lately is still Caravel - it’s on a barge near Islington, the food is delicious, service is amazing and being on a boat keeps it interesting!
