TikTok celebrates World Piano Day!
Last week, we celebrated World Piano Day on TikTok 🎵
World Piano Day is an annual worldwide event with a mission to bring piano players together from all over the world and share the centuries-old joy of playing piano. It takes place on the 88th day of the year – in 2022 it was the 29th March – because of the number of keys on the instrument being celebrated 🎹
To celebrate the day, we invited piano lovers, young and old, amateur and professional, to come together to showcase their musical talent on TikTok.
Hashtag Challenge - #Piano
We launched the hashtag challenge #Piano to encourage our community of creators and artists to share their own #Piano performances. We were not disappointed - the hashtag has racked up almost 15 billion views and we've seen brilliant creative covers from our community (including chart-topping stars!).
Over 150 artists jumped on the challenge, including musical legends like Andrew Lloyd Webber, Craig David, Elton John and Alicia Keys, all the way through to Emeli Sandé, Tom Odell, Griff and Fred Again. Elton John played a version of 'After All' with Charlie Puth, which racked up over 500k video views in a day, while Emeli Sandé freestyled and shared her journey learning classical piano. Andrew Lloyd Webber also encouraged creators to duet his video and played his favourite musicals he composed in under 60 seconds - the video attracted 1.3 million views and we've seen several musical theater creators jumping on to duet.
Discover classical music on TikTok
If you want to discover more piano sounds on TikTok, we have launched our World Piano Day 100-song playlist on our Sounds Page. This includes a mix of piano music and songs - ranging from classical to iconic piano pop/rock.
The playlist also features Patrick Watson's tune 'Je te laisserai des mots'. The musician recently joined TikTok and shared a tutorial with our community - the video has already garnered over 802.1k views.
On TikTok, there’s a space for everyone to share their musical talents and skills. Two artists that found their community on TikTok and became a popular favourite are Danilo Stankovic and Dorian Marko. His tune ‘Pieces (Solo Piano Version)’ garnered over 3.4 million video creations and Dorian's song ‘Cornfield Chase’ found similar success with 2.7 million video creations. Creators have been using the sounds to recreate memories and wholesome moments in their lives.
