Award winning British writer, director, broadcaster and documentary maker Reggie Yates, is today launching the #PassTheMic 🎤 challenge on TikTok, bringing his initiative to support the next generation of creative talent to the platform.
Reggie launched youth mentorship initiative, the Pass The Mic initiative, earlier this year in an effort to support young creatives wanting to get into the creative industries through mentorship, free educational resources and community.
Now he is extending the campaign to the community on TikTok, asking creators to share their best creative content, as part of the #PassTheMic challenge, launching today.
Users have from now until 18th December to submit their content on TikTok, with the #PassTheMic to enter. This could be anything from a poem ✍, a piece of music 🎶, a short film 📽 or even a photograph 📸, captured in short-form video.
TikTok's easy to use editing tools mean that anyone can become creative, lowering barriers to entry and opening doors for those with creative ideas and minds.
All entries will be judged by Reggie himself, with one winner securing a one-on one mentoring session with Reggie and a 2-week work experience at TikTok.
Reggie is also today launching his own TikTok account @regyates, where he'll share resources and insights to educate young people about how they can break into the creative industries. All TikTok creators will also be able to benefit from a special creative masterclass - more news on that soon!
This comes after our recent partnership with the Evening Standard to the launch the Future Theatre Fund, which also looks to kickstart the careers of young creatives across the country.
Commenting, Reggie Yates said: "This year has been particularly tough for anyone trying to get into the arts. Even during the best of times, so many talented young people miss out on their shot due to lack of opportunity, circumstance, or means. I started Pass The Mic to change this, giving the best talent a boost into the industry. I’m delighted to partner with TikTok to take the programme to its talented community and to offer a real learning opportunity to someone out there. I can’t wait to see the best TikTok has to offer."
Michael Djan, Public Figure Partnerships UK at TikTok said: "We've seen incredible talent from every creative field take to TikTok over the past year. From musical theatre and poetry, to rap and street art - emerging stars and established acts have delighted us with their genius and originality. TikTok has always been a home for creativity and we're proud to be working with Reggie Yates to help our creators gain confidence and kickstart their careers both on and off our platform. We hope this collaboration will play a small part in helping the next generation of creative talent fulfil their dreams."
