Protecting the integrity of TikTok during the Romanian elections
As we approach the next round of elections in Romania, today we're announcing updates that strengthen our ongoing work to protect our platform and connect our community to reliable election information.
TikTok enables people to discover and connect with content and creators they love. During elections, we work continually to protect our platform and maintain a civil place for people to express themselves and build community. Thousands of trust and safety and security professionals have safeguarded TikTok through over 200 elections around the world over the last five years, including Germany, Croatia, and other European elections already this year. We're building on these efforts today with our Romanian Election Center, a new media literacy campaign, and our continued work with over 20 fact-checking partners.
Connecting people to trusted sources of information
To help our community easily access facts about this election, we launched an Election Center last week which users can find in Search and through banners on election-related content. Our Election Center provides key information, such as important dates, and guides people to the Permanent Electoral Authority's website. It also has information about TikTok's policies and media literacy tips for creating, sharing, and engaging with content that we built in partnership with Funky Citizens.

Promoting media literacy
Empowering our community is a key pillar of our strategy, and we continue to invest in media literacy initiatives to equip our community with the skills they need to critically assess the content online, identify misinformation, and access reliable sources.
Ahead of the presidential elections in Romania, we are launching a media literacy campaign in collaboration with a number of top Romanian media partners to encourage critical thinking and help the community distinguish fact from fiction when viewing content online.
As part of this campaign, our media partners are creating a series of educational videos explaining how users can recognize and avoid misinformation, while empowering them with the tools needed to critically evaluate online content and guiding them towards official sources. These videos are available to the Romanian community via the Election Center, and we will actively promote them for visibility throughout the elections period.
Protecting the integrity of our platform
Creating the Election Center is just one part of our broader efforts to safeguard TikTok’s integrity. This work is led by our Elections Taskforce which is made up of experts in cybersecurity, deceptive activities, misinformation, and election integrity. The taskforce spearheads our efforts to protect our platform using both advanced moderation technology and our human moderation. They continue to diligently protect our community to help ensure people can safely express themselves on topics that matter to them, applying a variety of measures to enforce the policies laid out in our global election integrity hub.
We actively cooperate with all relevant authorities around elections, providing them with dedicated channels through which they can report content they believe may violate either our Community Guidelines or applicable regulations. In preparation for the upcoming elections, we have further expanded access to these tools by including additional local governmental and local expert institutions. This initiative not only enhances transparency but also reaffirms our strong commitment to working collaboratively with local regulatory bodies. It also builds on the work we already do to coordinate with local institutions like fact-checkers and NGOs, who we have added to our Community Partner Channel. We also work under Rapid Response System as part of the European Union's Code of Conduct on Disinformation framework, which helps to address urgent challenges that may threaten the integrity of the electoral process.
We are constantly working to maintain the integrity of our platform, especially during elections. In Romania, we'll continue to invest to stay ahead of potential threats while continuing to make it easy to find reliable sources of information for those engaging with election content on our app, and working with regional and national authorities.
