From breaking stigmas tied to mental health to sharing impactful stories and resources to support those in need of help, communities dedicated to mental health awareness continue to thrive on TikTok. This World Mental Health Day and beyond, we're recognizing and celebrating our community's strength, courage and resilience, acknowledging that we are all Better Together when we help each other improve and prioritize our mental well-being.
Partnering with mission-driven organizations to champion mental health and well-being
As we continue to provide our community access to information and resources around mental well-being, we also work with partners and mission-driven organizations around the world to raise awareness of mental health challenges. This World Mental Health Day, TikTok partnered with the Rare Impact Fund by sponsoring the inaugural Rare Impact Fund Benefit with a donation of $250,000 to support the organization's global work. The Benefit, which was held on October 4, raised funds and illuminated the importance of organizations that expand access to mental health services and education for young people around the world. The Rare Impact Fund was created by Selena Gomez as part of her commitment to addressing mental health and self-acceptance.
"At the Rare Impact Fund, we are inspired by young people using their voices to share their personal and impactful mental health stories on social media by meeting them where they are every day. We're delighted to continue working with companies like TikTok who support our mission to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness and inspire more positive conversations around mental health and self-acceptance. Together, we look forward to increasing access to mental health education and resources, and empowering young people everywhere to embrace their own mental health journeys."
- Elyse Cohen, Vice President of Social Impact & Inclusion at Rare Beauty and President of the Rare Impact Fund
In Africa, for TikTok's mental health campaign, watch out for creators like Poloko Mmakgolane, Sanam Naran, Nancy Mumbo, AbikeShugaa, Seniormanoa, and many others who will be talking about all things Mental Health. These in-depth conversations will shed light on mental well-being, providing valuable insights and perspectives for our viewers. From lifestyle influencers to celebrities and community experts have worked together to spread our message of mental health awareness.
In addition, our campaign's Wellness Hub page provides users with resources to engage users on topics of mental well-being.
Connecting our global community and promoting well-being advocacy
The global TikTok community continues to foster a safe and positive space for conversations about mental health and well-being, with topics related to #MentalHealth, #SelfCare and #MentalHealthAwareness garnering 100+ billion, 50+ billion, and 25+ billion views, respectively, to date.
As we launch our global campaign, #MentalHealthAwareness: Better Together, we're proud that 74.3% of community members in Sub-Saharan Africa tell us they found a sense of belonging on TikTok. Throughout October, we invite our community to share encouraging stories and personal well-being journeys, using the hashtags #MentalHealthAwareness and #MentalHealth. You can also learn from fellow mental health advocates, connect with organizations and access essential resources through our digital wellness hub.
What our partners say:
We have also partnered with Bongo who will be engaging in insightful interviews with a diverse range of creators and celebrities. Bonga, a Capital FM Initiative in Kenya, recognises the profound impact that mental health has on individuals, communities, and economies. Through this initiative, people are encouraged to open up and be more honest about their mental well-being.
“It is meant to be a safe space where you can share your feelings anonymously without fear of judgment or bullying. When you are not yet ready to share, you are encouraged to empathise and learn from other people’s experiences,” says David Muba, a spokesperson for Bonga.
“We believe that mental health is not a luxury but a fundamental right. Our mission is to empower individuals to prioritise their mental well-being in the digital age. A healthy mind is a foundation for a thriving society, and together, we can create a world where mental health is prioritised, and individuals can flourish in their pursuit of happiness and fulfillment,” David adds.
At TikTok, we remain committed to supporting our community's mental health and well-being on our platform and beyond. We encourage everyone to learn more about and promote #MentalHealthAwareness so we can all be Better Together throughout our journey.
