What inspired you to start creating content on TikTok?
I started my TikTok account to share my love for fashion and express my passion for fashion and styling in a fun and engaging way. The platform's dynamic nature and emphasis on creativity resonated with me. I was inspired by the community of creators who showcased their unique styles and perspectives, demonstrating that fashion is not just about clothes but also about individuality and self-expression.
How do you use TikTok to support or inspire other women, and what impact have you seen from these efforts?
I use TikTok as a platform to uplift and inspire other women in several ways. My key message is “Wear the clothes, the world will adjust”. I encourage self-expression and embracing personal style, and many followers have shared that my content has boosted their self-esteem and inspired them to embrace their styles. I hope for a world where women feel free to be the individuals they imagine themselves to be.
What challenges have you faced as a female creator, and how have you navigated or overcome these obstacles?
The fashion space is overcrowded, and it’s becoming increasingly difficult to stand out, especially as a female creator amidst a sea of talent. I continue to embrace my unique voice and perspective, focusing on authenticity rather than trying to fit in, an opportunity that TikTok provides. By being true to style and values, I was able to carve out a niche that resonates with my audience.
Additionally, my style is androgynous as I believe that clothes have no gender. This has opened me up to criticism from people who believe that women shouldn’t wear clothes meant for men and vice versa. I have focused on building a positive mindset, reminding myself that while constructive criticism feedback is valuable, harsh criticism should not define my worth. Engaging with my supportive community helps reinforce my confidence.
I am also in a niche mostly dominated by creators based in the UK and US, where most of the opportunities are. This has sometimes brought on imposter syndrome. However, I remind myself of my progress and the positive impact I am making on others, celebrating both small and big wins!
How do you stay authentic and true to yourself while navigating trends and expectations within your industry or online community?
My authenticity is my brand. I focus on what feels true to my style rather than conforming to trends. My online community is aware that I do not follow trends but rather that my fashion choices reflect my personality, and this is what sets me apart. I encourage my audience to do the same by highlighting that style is about personal expression, not merely following trends. I hope to inspire others to embrace their own uniqueness amidst the noise of trends and expectations.
On Women’s Day, what message or advice would you offer women pursuing their own creative and entrepreneurial goals?
Do not be afraid to take risks in your creative endeavors. Whether it’s trying a new idea, exploring different styles, or venturing into business, courage is key. Each step, no matter how small it may seem, contributes to your growth. Remember that your journey is uniquely yours. By staying true to yourself and supporting one another, we can create a future of limitless possibilities.
