Seniormanoa: Mental health is going mainstream thanks to millennials

Introducing Seniormanoa - a content creator who has mastered the art of connecting with his audience through relatable real-life scenarios. With a diverse range of topics, ranging from friendship to finances and relationships, Seniormanoa's content aims to empower individuals to become the best version of themselves.

How do you use TikTok to raise awareness about mental health issues or to provide support and inspiration to those facing mental health challenges?

Most of the content I create on TikTok is grounded in real-life scenarios. I touch on friendship, love, money, relationships, healthy living, and more. My goal is to help people become the best version of themselves while also bringing a smile to their faces. I've created videos encouraging people to prioritise their mental health, recognising its equal importance and physical well-being.

World Mental Health Day aims to break the stigma around mental health. What can the creative community do to contribute to a more open and understanding conversation about mental health?

In the part of the world where I come from, mental health is not prioritised. It’s recently gaining traction with the Genz/millennial generation, and I'm so grateful for that. When everyone talks or advocates for something, the stigma around such topics or ideas dissipates as it’s no longer a “taboo”. More creators and people with influence need to keep encouraging their audiences, family, and friends to keep talking about mental health, and in the long run, I believe the stigma will be removed. This will also show that those who need help, such as therapy and community, will get access to it because there will be more than enough help and information.

Which TikTok creators do you believe bring positivity to the platform?

Some of the creators I enjoy watching are Mr beastRetirement HouseMdMotivator, and Twojays2.

Many creators feel pressured to produce content and engage with their audience constantly. How do you balance your creative work and taking time for self-care and mental health?

There’s no denying that this can get very overwhelming. Many people follow or subscribe to you because they enjoy your content, and to keep growing, you need to produce/create said content regularly. This can be very taxing on the psyche in the long run. I listen to my body. As much as I enjoy creating content and would like to constantly dish it out, I just don’t, and I take time off to relax whenever I don't feel like it. To take this effectiveness to the next level, creators can also batch create, i.e., creating a handful of content at once and posting it over time. For days when you are not feeling up to the task, you’ll always have something in your arsenal.

What strategies or self-care practices do you incorporate into your daily routine to maintain good mental health while pursuing your creative endeavours? Do you have any tips or advice for fellow creators on managing their mental well-being?

To prioritise my mental health, I gym five days a week and incorporate morning and evening walks into my routine, as it has been proven that staying active is effective; additionally, I make sure to prioritise getting quality sleep and consciously disconnect from social media from time to time. As creators, it's easy to fall into the trap of spending excessive time on social media in terms of consumption and contribution. If the amount of time spent on these platforms and the type of content consumed aren't actively monitored, they can have more negative effects than positive ones. To maintain a healthy balance, focus on staying active, reconnecting with nature, and being mindful of content consumption, all while prioritising sleep and relaxation.
