Uncover Africa's hidden sports stars with Dennis Cofie —where thrilling athletic stories and game-changing updates come alive in the simplest way!

What inspired you to begin posting on TikTok and how has the journey been so far?

Stories of African athletes excelling in various sports are often overlooked. Understanding the difficulties and challenges they face, I set out to create a platform dedicated to sharing their journeys and highlighting their successes. By focusing on their achievements and struggles, I aim to bring more attention to their remarkable stories. Although it has had its challenges, particularly in building an audience and curating the right content, the journey has been rewarding.

Paris was a big moment. How do you feel being part of the creators documenting these events? What was your most memorable moment and behind-the-scenes experience you could share?

Yes, it was a significant moment for me, and documenting a competition that occurs only once every four years was a tremendous opportunity. My most memorable experience was when Letsile Tebogo from Botswana won gold in the 200m. It was a moment that united the entire continent—from Gambia to Somalia to South Africa—as everyone celebrated his achievement.

My favorite behind-the-scenes moment is always the content production process. I enjoy researching and being surrounded by notes and articles as I craft the story of athletes progressing from obscurity to Olympic glory. It’s fulfilling to know that my work, done from my home, contributes to the narrative of a global event like the Olympics.

What role do you think TikTok plays in how fans experience major sporting events?

For me, TikTok serves as a bridge that connects storytellers like myself to fans of major events. It allows us to share unique experiences and behind-the-scenes moments in a creative way, providing fans with a fresh perspective beyond the game performances.

Can you share any best practices for engaging your audience with interactive or live content during major events?

My best practice has been to start my content with a question. This approach piques the viewer's curiosity and, by gradually answering the question, keeps them engaged throughout the content.

How do you handle any pressure to stay on top of trends and be innovative with your content during such a high-profile event?

Staying on top of trends is my biggest challenge, especially during major tournaments when there are countless stories to track. However, I prioritize researching the top performers and staying updated with information from other sources to ensure I don’t miss any significant stories..

What advice would you give to other creators who want to grow and be part of big events or sporting moments on their platforms?

There are countless stories to tell and many creative ways to produce content, but growth comes from consistent effort. Focus on creating more content, ensuring that the information is meaningful, and maintaining consistency. Growth will follow when you commit to this process.
