Banele discussed his involvement in creating the PRIDE by Creators TikTok Effect, which aims to foster inclusivity and support for the LGBTQIA+ community.

What inspired you to get involved in creating the PRIDE by Creators Effect on TikTok?

Our inspiration stems from the desire to create a safe and inclusive environment where individuals can freely express themselves. We wanted to engage the TikTok community to join us in supporting the LGBTQIA+ community.

Our main objective with this effect was to break boundaries, not only within the LGBTQIA+ community but also within the TikTok community as a whole. We wanted to emphasize that one does not need to identify as LGBTQIA+ to feel part of the community. Our goal was to create a space where being LGBTQIA+ is seen as the norm. We also aimed to provide support for those who may be hesitant to come out by showing them that a supportive community exists.

What does it mean to you personally to have a dedicated effect that celebrates Pride on TikTok?

Having a dedicated effect that celebrates Pride on TikTok signifies that nothing is impossible. It demonstrates that we can play a significant role in society and encourages others to believe they can create anything and be anything, regardless of their sexual orientation or identity.

We hope the PRIDE by Creators Effect will encourage other users to engage with and support the LGBTQIA+ community. It serves as a reminder that TikTok is not just a platform for entertainment but also a place where communities can come together and be informed.

Were there any specific challenges or memorable moments you encountered while working on the PRIDE by Creators Effect?

One memorable moment was meeting other influencers and collaborating with them on creating the effect. It was a chance to learn more about the LGBTQIA+ community and the goals they aspire to achieve on the TikTok platform in terms of raising awareness. The interconnectedness and support within the LGBTQIA+ community were genuinely inspiring. Witnessing the dedication and collaboration of community members during the creation of this innovative initiative was a powerful reminder of the strength and unity that lies within the community.

How do you envision the PRIDE by Creators Effect contributing to the larger conversation around LGBTQIA+ representation and acceptance in South Africa?

We believe that the PRIDE by Creators Effect has the power to break stereotypes surrounding the LGBTQIA+ community. It has the potential to educate and influence the masses beyond religious and spiritual beliefs, providing a fun and effective way to grow the community and promote acceptance.

Our message is one of confidence, healing, and support. We want users to feel proud of their identities, highlight the beauty within the LGBTQIA+ community, and spread love rather than hate.

In what ways will the PRIDE by Creators Effect help foster a sense of belonging and community for LGBTQIA+ creators and users on TikTok?

The Pride Effect will help build a community where individuals who may feel left out can find a sense of belonging. It will facilitate collaborations between creators, fostering connections beyond the program and allowing everyone to feel a sense of belonging beyond measure.

How do you plan to use the PRIDE by Creators Effect in your content or encourage others to use it during Pride Month?

I plan to utilize the Pride Effect to the best of my ability, encouraging other creators to reach out for support and collaboration to raise awareness about the LGBTQIA+ community.

How will you be celebrating Pride Month this year?

My plan for Pride Month is to attend any pride events taking place around me. I intend to vlog the entire experience and share the excitement and joy that comes from uniting with the community.
