What inspired you to start creating mental health content on TikTok?

My journey began with a focus on health education, particularly in areas like sexual and reproductive health, where stigma often hinders essential conversations. However, as I engaged more with people, it became increasingly clear that mental health is equally vital in these discussions. From navigating relationships to managing stress, our mental and emotional well-being significantly influences how we approach sexual health. TikTok has allowed me to illuminate these connections in a way that resonates with my community.

What theme in mental health does your content focus on and why?

I focus on making mental health approachable and relatable. My goal is not only to empower people but also to raise awareness—because when we’re aware of our symptoms and understand what we’re experiencing, we’re more likely to seek help earlier, leading to better outcomes. It’s about breaking down complex topics so that mental well-being feels like an essential, accessible part of everyday life.

What role do you think TikTok plays in shaping conversations around mental health today?

TikTok is a massive platform with the power to reach millions, and that reach makes all the difference. It allows us to show that mental health isn’t something to hide but something everyone deals with in some way. TikTok creates a space where people can connect, learn, and feel seen, no matter where they are.

What are some effective ways to destigmatize mental health conversations online?

The key to breaking stigma is showing that mental health is just as important as physical health. Using everyday language, analogies, or even humour makes it easier for people to connect and understand. Studies show that openness about mental health, especially when it’s relatable, encourages others to feel less isolated and more likely to seek help. When people see real, relatable stories, they’re reminded that mental health struggles are part of being human.

Can you share any specific techniques or tools that have helped you manage your own mental health?

Research shows that maintaining a healthy routine is crucial for mental well-being, which has also been true for me. Setting boundaries helps me manage stress, and I prioritize quality sleep and time for hobbies I enjoy. Staying connected with friends and family is also a proven way to boost mood and reduce stress. These simple practices, supported by science, keep me balanced and grounded.

Can you share a TikTok video that resonated with your audience the most and why?

One of the videos that resonated deeply was when I talked about how people often assume that those with depression are always visibly sad or crying. But in reality, many people put on a mask, appearing happy and laughing while struggling silently. This video struck a chord because it reminded viewers that mental health struggles aren’t always visible and encouraged empathy and awareness in how we see those around us.
