TikTok creators in Somalia contribute to a safer experience for the community using  #WadajiraaBadqaba

At TikTok, the safety of our community remains a top priority. Taking a local approach to spreading the positive message of staying safer together, TikTok creators in Somalia have posted educational videos under the hashtag: #WadajiraaBadqaba; sharing ways in which our community in Somalia can stay safe using our regularly updated safety features. This effort stems from the global hashtag #SaferTogether, which has attracted over 13.5 billion views on TikTok.

At TikTok, we are committed to enhancing user safety, and it’s reflected in our recently updated Community Guidelines. By embarking on this comprehensive refresh, we aim to empower our users to freely unleash their creativity, connect with others, and express themselves in an environment that is safe.

Proving the power of collaboration in keeping the platform safe, we also recently hosted a series of workshops with various stakeholders in Somalia. This education is key to maintaining a safe app environment. At the core of our commitment to user safety and transparency, we've secured partnerships with more than 100 expert organisations worldwide to ensure that our guidelines undergo constant enhancement and refinement based on valuable user feedback.

We're proud to have implemented the Community Guidelines refresh, offering our community much more transparency about our rules and how we enforce them. It takes a whole village to keep people safe online, so we're grateful to everyone in the TikTok community and to all of the external experts who have contributed and continue to help us advance our rules and stay a step ahead of emerging threats,” commented Kevin Morgan, Head of Trust & Safety, EMEA.

Our Transparency Centre issues quarterly reports on Community Guidelines Enforcement, and during Q4 2022, we removed a staggering 85.68 million videos globally, constituting 0.6% of uploaded videos. In Somalia, our team removed over 280,000 videos during the same period that violated its guidelines. Impressively, we detected and removed 98.7% of these violating videos before they were reported. Our proactive approach showcases our commitment to maintaining a safe and compliant platform for our users.

We strongly encourage our TikTok community, including creators and users, to visit the Safety Centre regularly. By doing so, they can stay up-to-date on the latest safety initiatives and guidelines. This commitment to safety is our top priority, and we aim to provide a platform that encourages creativity, expression, and, above all, a safe experience for everyone.

Emphasising the importance of collaboration in ensuring the community stays #SaferTogether, General Manager, Mustafa Y. Sheik of Somalia's National Communications Authority (NCA) in Somalia said: " National regulators such as the National Communications Authority of Somalia play a crucial role in ensuring that platforms such as TikTok are safe and secure for all users, through collaboration between TikTok and NCA it is essential to ensure that the platform is safe from any harmful content particularly content that promotes terrorism and violence.
