The Speaking Dynamo who turns limiting beliefs into rocket fuel for success

Meet Poloko, the speaker who's been turning ordinary moments into extraordinary ones! From high school students to the halls of Parliament, he's a dynamic force inspiring and teaching with flair.

How do you use TikTok to raise awareness about mental health issues or to provide support and inspiration to those facing mental health challenges?

The primary purpose of my work, which includes content creation and seminars, is to help people understand the power of constructive, positive thinking. My TikTok content centers around inspiration, encouragement, and teaching principles that empower individuals to cultivate a resilient and overcoming mindset.

World Mental Health Day aims to break the stigma around mental health. What do you think the creative community can do to contribute to a more open and understanding conversation about mental health?

The creative community has a vital role in being honest and transparent about themselves. One of the most significant threats to people's mental well-being is the pressure to "keep up with the Joneses." When creatives try to project a lifestyle they can't genuinely maintain, it puts undue pressure on their followers to emulate it. I also firmly believe that every creator, regardless of their niche, should be responsible for spreading positivity worldwide. Inspiring, encouraging, and expressing love through their creative endeavours can have a profound impact.

Which TikTok creators do you believe bring positivity to the platform?

Poloko Mmakgolane (myself), for sure. @.lachief, @gameliihle, @candicemodiselle, @thecoke25, @biphakathi1, and @nochillgod. These are some of the content creators whose content I find positive and enjoyable, no matter what their niche is.

What strategies or self-care practices do you incorporate into your daily routine to maintain good mental health while pursuing your creative endeavours? Do you have any tips or advice for fellow creators on managing their mental well-being?

Maintaining a sound and healthy mind is my daily priority. I kickstart each day with 15 minutes of reflection, jotting down everything I'm grateful for. Gratitude keeps me grounded and shapes my mindset to spot the silver lining. I'm selective about my content, favouring what's valuable and wholesome, including various forms of entertainment.

Here are some tips for fellow creators to manage their mental well-being:

  • Cultivate a daily gratitude practice.
  • Train your mind to appreciate the goodness in others, which helps you see the good in your own life.
  • Steer clear of social media drama and minimise engagement in trends that negatively affect your emotions.
  • Allow people to have their opinions without engaging in unnecessary conflicts in the comments section.
  • Invest in meaningful relationships. "Better together" isn't just a catchy phrase; it's a fundamental truth of human existence. We thrive when we nurture the right connections within our community.

Many creators feel pressured to produce content and engage with their audience constantly. How do you balance your creative work and taking time for self-care and mental health?

Establishing a clear boundary between the digital and physical realms is crucial. I maintain the discipline to navigate the online world while residing in the real world. My enjoyment of the content I create adds to this balance, as it is immensely valuable. Furthermore, every creator needs to prioritise offline time. Practice self-discipline by disconnecting from social media when you need it.
