Protecting the integrity of TikTok during the parliamentary elections in Moldova
Today, we're sharing information about our plans to protect our community in Moldova ahead of the upcoming Parliamentary elections on 28 September 2025. Over the last five years, thousands of trust and safety and security specialists have protected the integrity of our platform through more than 200 elections globally, and we are committed to maintaining a civil place for people to express themselves and build community.
Ahead of Moldova’s parliamentary elections, we have set up our Mission Control Centre Group, uniting local market expertise with global subject matter specialists in cybersecurity, misinformation, election integrity, and hateful behavior. Together, they coordinate and implement a wide range of safety and security measures that help protect our platform and empower our community to safely express themselves on topics that matter to them.
Connecting people to authoritative sources of information
We're launching an in-app Election Center in partnership with the Central Electoral Commission of the Republic of Moldova to make it easy to find reliable information, including voter registration, key dates, and where people can access more information about the upcoming vote. The Election Center includes educational videos and resources that we created in partnership with our media literacy partner Stop Fals! to help our community engage with content responsibly and spot potentially false information.
To ensure that we're reaching users where they are, we'll direct them to the center through election tags on relevant election content and searches. The Election Center we launched ahead of the 2024 Presidential election and the EU accession referendum in Moldova was visited around 85,000 times.

This is part of the wider work we do to empower people with reliable information on TikTok and give them important context about content and accounts. We also label state-affiliated media accounts, provide "verified" badges for accounts to signal they're authentic, and require creators to label realistic AI-generated content while providing tools to make this easy to do.
Combating harmful misinformation
We protect our community by enforcing firm policies against harmful misinformation and attempts to deceive our community. To do that, we invest in advanced moderation technologies and thousands of safety professionals, including local language moderators, who work together to protect our community. We prohibit harmful misinformation and may label unverified content, make it ineligible for recommendation, and prompt people to reconsider before sharing. We work with more than 20 fact-checking organizations globally to assess the accuracy of content to help inform how we apply those policies accurately, including Reuters in Moldova.
In addition, we work with relevant local authorities and partners in the context of elections, providing them with dedicated channels through which they can report content which will be reviewed for Community Guidelines or local law violations by our teams.
Disrupting deceptive activity
We are highly vigilant against attempts to undermine authentic interactions on TikTok, and have teams who work full-time to disrupt deceptive behaviors.
We prohibit covert influence operations, where networks of accounts misleadingly work together in an attempt to influence public discussion on important social issues, and we regularly report these network disruptions in our Transparency Center. In 2025 alone, we have removed three networks comprising more than 400 accounts that we assessed to be targeting European and Moldovan audiences with political content about the country. We also prohibit impersonation or attempts to artificially boost content through fake engagement like bot networks.
Prohibiting paid ads
We've long prohibited paid political advertising on TikTok because we don't believe it's conducive to authentic, creative TikTok experiences. Accounts belonging to politicians or political parties are not allowed to use advertising or monetization features, and are subject to additional dedicated rules given the public interest role they play in civic processes.
We are constantly working to maintain the integrity of our platform, especially during elections. In Moldova, we will continue to invest to stay ahead of potential threats while continuing to make it easy to find reliable sources of information for those engaging with election content on our app.
