This Girl Can harnessed the power of the world’s fastest growing app to engage young women in exercise as part of a featured challenge.

Sport England and TikTok launched a #FitGotReal challenge with This Girl Can. The challenge encouraged users to share their spin on fitness on TikTok through the apps 15 second videos, to spread the word that fitness can be done anytime, anywhere, anyhow.

Users on the platform recorded themselves getting involved in activity — from press-ups in the bedroom, a session of squats after work and running in the park to simply dancing in the front room, using the hashtag #FitGotReal.

Research showed that a massive barrier to women taking up exercise was fear of judgement. This Girl Can was created to encourage women and they pride themselves in showcasing real women of all ages, shapes and backgrounds engaging in exercise to help break that barrier.

The latest phase of the This Girl Can campaign — #FitGotReal — continued to break down that fear alongside other barriers such as a lack of funds, time and energy. In partnering with TikTok, This Girl Can wanted to encourage younger women and teens to get active and show how you don’t need masses of time and expensive equipment to exercise.

TikTok’s UK Strategy Manager, Edward Lindeman comments “We were delighted to collaborate with This Girl Can, supporting the #FitGotReal challenge to empower women of all shapes and sizes, with all abilities and from all backgrounds to love sports and fitness. TikTok’s inclusive community loved the challenge of bringing creativity to fitness and thrived on its positive impact.
