This year at the World Economic Forum in Davos, TikTok increased its presence by bringing the magic of the platform to life at the Swiss ski resort. TikTok brought four leading creators from across the globe to Davos to discuss the work they do to inspire action at the first-ever TikTok Experience space. This interactive space served to educate the public about TikTok’s unique capability to drive global impact and the work we do to keep our platform safe and secure.

Creators

Across a series of panel discussions, events and bilateral meetings, and in close collaboration with the World Economic Forum, our creators shared their stories of how they have broken down barriers, amplified marginalized voices, and mobilized millions towards a shared goal for a better future.

The creators were:

  • JT Laybourne, from the United States, a motivational content creator known for raising awareness around heart health
  • Charity Ekezie from Nigeria, a Nigerian journalist and creator who has built a global community through her entertaining content
  • Dr. Kirren Schnack from the United Kingdom, a distinguished clinical psychologist with over 18 years of experience in clinical mental health settings
  • Celine Murillo, from the Philippines, a passionate environmental advocate who raises awareness about the unique and fragile ecosystem of the Philippines.

JT shared his personal journey with his 1.7 million followers during the pandemic when he had to undergo open-heart surgery, and he continues to inspire a global community to raise awareness about heart health. In 2020-2021, he helped raise over a million dollars for the American Heart Association (AHA) on TikTok, the platform's largest single fundraising effort. At Davos, JT had the opportunity to meet, among others, the CEO of American Heart Association, Nancy Brown, to talk about how he can further support the organization through TikTok and beyond.

Charity, who has more than 3.4 million followers, uses her content to tackle misconceptions and stereotypes about Africa in an entertaining, educational and humourous way. During her time at the World Economic Forum, she met with, among others, the Vice-President of her home country, Nigeria, to discuss the community she's built on TikTok, and how she uses it as "PR for the West" to break harmful stereotypes that affect Africans. You can find her content from Davos here.

Dr. Kirren, with over 600,000 followers on TikTok is renowned for her commitment to mental health advocacy. She spoke on two panels at Davos about her role as a TikTok creator and as someone who is part of the World Health Organization's Fides network, discussing how innovative storytelling and partnerships empower communities to access trusted mental health resources, navigate misinformation, and cultivate resilience. The first was a World Economic Panel alongside Dr Alain Labrique, Director for the Department of Digital Health and Innovation at the World Health Organization and Amanda Yarnell, senior director of Harvard T.H, Chan School of Public Health's Center for Health Communication, featuring opening remarks from TikTok's Head of Operations and Trust & Safety, Adam Presser. She also spoke at a panel at Goal's House moderated by WHO chief scientist, Jeremy Farrar, alongside TikTok's Global Head of Outreach and Partnerships, Trust and Safety, Valiant Richey. You can find her content from Davos here.

Celine, with over 650,000 followers on TikTok, combines scientific insight with relatable storytelling to educate her audience on protecting endangered species, preserving habitats, and addressing biodiversity loss. Her collaborative efforts with NGOs, local communities, and scientists along with initiatives like tree-planting drives and coastal clean-ups, inspire young Filipinos to take action for a more sustainable future. Celine had the chance to meet a number of delegates, including the CEO of Conservation International, M. Sanjayan, where they discussed how to stay optimistic through setbacks and challenges of the climate movement.

TikTok's Head of Operations and Trust and Safety, Adam Presser, who was on the ground in Davos said "At TikTok, our creators are the heart of our platform and it's always inspiring to hear stories firsthand from the creators who are making a difference. It was an honor to have JT, Charity, Dr. Kirren and Celine in Davos to share how they inspire, educate, and lead conversations on pressing topics like physical and mental well-being, environmental protection, cultural stereotypes, and economic empowerment — ultimately making the platform stronger for the billion people around the world who love TikTok."

TikTok Experience Space

This year was the first year that we opened The TikTok Experience Centre, a dedicated space on the Davos Promenade open to the public. This centre provided interactive screens where attendees could learn more about our creators, our approach to safety and security and our global impact. The centre was visited by hundreds of people over the course of the week.
