More than one billion people around the world and 2.2 million* people in Ireland come to TikTok to be entertained, express themselves, start and grow a business, or even to learn something new. #BookTok has become a literature phenomenon, encouraging a new generation to share their love of reading and helping authors find new audiences. Meanwhile, #LearnonTikTok encourages our community to discover everything from local geology to ancient history.
This year, TikTok launched the STEM feed in Ireland and across Europe and the United States, creating a unique feed dedicated to educational and inspiring STEM content. Since then, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics videos have continued to thrive, empowering discovery on TikTok and connecting a dynamic community of people over shared interests.
Globally, 25% of teens visit the STEM feed on a weekly basis. In Ireland, content related to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics has grown by 35%, with 25% of Irish teens visiting the STEM feed on a weekly basis. Due to this huge success and to encourage even more people of all ages globally to access and explore these subjects, the STEM feed will now be turned on by default for all users in the UK, Ireland, US and Canada.
The STEM feed will also continue to roll out in even more markets globally and will begin to feature local language content in Europe, including French, German, Spanish, Italian and Arabic.
Educational communities in particular thrive on TikTok. Almost 10 million STEM-related videos have been published globally in the last three years. The STEM feed, which features alongside the For You feed, opens up a world of knowledge from respected experts in their fields. The feed, which has so far, included English-speaking content with auto-translate subtitles, has seen science, technology, engineering, and mathematics content grow globally by 35% since the launch of the STEM feed.
"Discovery is at the heart of the TikTok experience, and we're always looking for ways to help our community uncover new and relevant content through introducing new exciting formats. We hope as the STEM feed evolves and grows in Ireland we will continue to inspire a new generation of engineers, mathematicians and Science enthusiasts!
