Be Media Smart is an initiative of Media Literacy Ireland which encourages people to Stop, Think and Check that the information that they read, see or hear is reliable and accurate.
This year, TikTok is supporting Media Literacy Ireland's campaign by partnering with The Journal to encourage people to Stop, Think and Check that the information that they read, see or hear is reliable and accurate.
As part of the campaign, The Journal is rolling out a series of educational videos in-app that share tips on how to spot and counter misinformation and disinformation. These videos are accessed in the TikTok app when a user searches for terms in TikTok related to common mis/disinformation themes, alongside an in-app information hub featuring media literacy tips.
The Be Media Smart campaign is an initiative of Media Literacy Ireland (MLI) and is supported by a wide range of members including media, civil society organisations, libraries, educational, training and research institutions.
For more information about TikTok's work to counter mis and disinformation, please refer to our latest EU Code of Practice on Disinformation report which details the progress we have been making to combat the spread of harmful misinformation, alongside our industry partners, which includes 15 fact-checking organisations accredited by the International Fact-Checking Network.
