Join us in celebrating World Mental Health Day with Creator Spotlights highlighting some Irish TikTok creators sharing positive and well-being content! While we support mental health all year round, we want to take this month to proactively spotlight wellness creators on TikTok and celebrate the importance of mental well-being in Ireland. First up, we have @amie_wiley! Amie is known on TikTok for sharing positivity and fitness videos with her following of 12K+. She creates content on completing the 75-Day Hard challenge, exercise demonstrations and mindset videos. We recently chatted with Amie to discuss why she started sharing wellness content and the importance of self-care.

Q: What first inspired you to talk about mental health on TikTok?

A: Wellness is something that I have regarded as highly important in my life. I have grown up playing sports and I am naturally someone who enjoys exercise and movement. Health is a main value of mine. A lot of people see health as the physical body but I see it as physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. I saw that people were posting a lot about workouts and things they can do to improve their physical health but not a lot of people were posting about health practices for the other aspects so that's what inspired me to talk about it. My whole ethos which even transfers into my work life (I'm an online fitness and wellness coach!) is ‘stronger from the inside out” and I wholeheartedly believe that! My undergrad was also in psychology so it's naturally something that I've been interested in. I'm quite an open person and I'm aware that everyone goes through similar struggles so talking about it makes one feel less alone. It comes naturally to me! I want to show that everyone is human and it's ok to not be perfect - nobody is!

Q: How do you approach destigmatizing mental health issues in your content and conversations?

A: I am a people person and I think it's quite easy for people to open up to me. I am so interested in people and I care a lot. I'm never one to judge and I've always been a great listener - so that all helps. My approach is honestly just about being open, honest, authentic and showing people that it's okay to have internal struggles-the majority of us do! I think people relate to my openness, vulnerabilities and non-judgemental approach to things.

Q: What other Irish creators do you think inspire positivity on TikTok?

A: Other Irish creators I follow on TikTok that inspire positivity are @caoileannconway, @mulligainz_fitness, @dev_skehan & @tonytravels10_.

Q: What is your favourite TikTok you have made to date and why?

A: The first two: The topics in both videos are two very prominent things that people continue to struggle with and in each video, I offer a different perspective on things to get people to think a little differently! The last one: me showing a slow day in my life and the importance of slowing down when not doing the best mentally.

@amie_wiley Happiness is not a destination. “I’ll be happy when I move to X” Although a place can add hugely to the joy you feel, it won’t ‘make’ you happy. Happiness comes from within you. I’m currently in Australia, one of my favourite places in the world and a place I’ve dreamed of living in since I was a little girl and being here has really reiterated to me that happiness is not a destination. Happiness comes from putting the work into yourself, improving yourself, doing what you enjoy and with the people you enjoy being with. It doesn’t solely come from a destination 💛 #happiness #irishabroad #australia #mythoughts #livingabroad ♬ The Wisp Sings - Winter Aid

Q: What role do you believe self-care plays in maintaining good mental health, and how do you incorporate it into your daily life?

Self-care is so important. We give so much of our energy to other people every day that it's important to make sure that we give to ourselves and our needs too. You can't pour from an empty cup so self-care to me is about being intentional with my actions. It’s showing up for myself each day. Getting up, including some form of movement in my day, whether it be a gym session or a walk, being intentional with the food I consume and fueling my body with good food, keeping water intake up, gratitude journaling (I created my very own journal for this), and tapping into my state of flow (a positive psychology phenomenon where you are so immersed in an activity that you lose complete track of time) each day if only for 20 minutes a day! It's showing up for yourself each day because you’re the only person that can do it for you!
