Whether it's #WomenInBusiness and #WomenEntrepreneurs inspiring critical career conversations, or #WomenInSports and #WomenInGaming challenging stereotypes and breaking boundaries, women in Ireland from all walks of life use TikTok to build community, foster connections, and champion causes to advance women's equity. In 2023, we saw 1.4M posts from #WomenOfTikTok globally, increased more than 500% from the previous year, which is a testament to the impact and collective power of women in driving change on and beyond the platform.

This International Women's Day and Women's History Month, we're celebrating our #WomenOfTikTok community, made up of inspiring women who are driving change on the platform and in their local communities every day with The Power of We.

Elevating our diverse communities of women

International Women's Day is a moment to celebrate the achievements of women and advancing gender equality, while also recognising the importance of inclusive community building for women.

According to a recent study, 70% of women on TikTok feel they can join groups on TikTok that they couldn't find anywhere else.* Over the past year, women across the globe have continued to build connections and communities on the platform. Popular themes that inspired the entire TikTok community in the past year include:

  • Women empowerment: Popular hashtags including #StrongWomen, #Her, #GirlPower, #WomeSupportingWomen continue to inspire and mobilise the entire TikTok community, with almost 4M posts. In Ireland, women on TikTok are creating a supportive and empowering environment. For example, @charleenmurphyyy has shared her very personal stories of abuse to support others and drive awareness, while @indiasasha uses the platform to advocate for disability rights, while also discussing the realities of living in Northern Ireland,
  • Celebrating and recognising motherhood: There are more than 16M posts in the past year mentioning #MomsOfTikTok, #MomLife, #MomTok, where the TikTok community shows love and tribute to moms for making them who they are, while recognising the challenges of being a mom and supporting communities of mothers.Irish creators such as @kee_mon share her empowering experience of being a single mother on TikTok, also highlighting her positive co-parenting experience. Keelin shares content for other parents in Ireland, such as children's book recommendations.
  • Entrepreneurship and women-owned businesses: Discussions around #WomenOwnedBusiness, #WomeninBusiness, and #WomenEntrepreneurs show our community is committed to supporting women-owned businesses and is inspired by women entrepreneurship. There are many inspiring Irish female-founded businesses on TikTok. For example, the Co-Clare mother-daughter duo Paulette and Louise Egan who founded @theispyteam and use TikTok to share the highs and lows of building their business from their home, or Irish female entrepreneurs, such as @ainekennedyyy, the owner and founder of @thesmoothcompany.
  • Empower women in sports: From training tips to game highlights, women athletes, professional players, and sports enthusiasts worldwide showcase their skills, share insights into their training routines, and connect with an enthusiastic community on TikTok. Join us to support #WomenInSports and celebrate the accomplishments of those who continue to address gender disparities in the sports world! Leading Irish sports star @ktmccabe11 inspires women of all ages to pursue a profession in sports. As a player for the Republic of Ireland & Arensel Katie showcases everything from international matches to behind-the-scenes training videos on TikTok.

This International Women's Day and Women's History Month on TikTok in Ireland, we're putting the spotlight on remarkable women and their talents by launching our 2024 IWD campaign, The Power of We.
