Q: What first inspired you to talk about mental health/wellness on TikTok?
A: During college, I started to experience anxiety more frequently. This anxiety then grew to panic attacks. I felt so alone in my experience at the time so I thought of sharing a video to see if anyone else was struggling too. That first TikTok video got such an amazing response, so many college students commented and explained that they were finding it hard mentally also! It felt incredible to not only speak openly about my anxiety but also to know I was helping others by doing so. From then on, I have felt inspired to talk about mental health on my TikTok in an attempt to make others feel heard, seen, or even just a little less alone in their minds.

Q: What’s your favourite thing about connecting with your community through mental wellbeing and wellness-focused content?
A: Oh wow, where to start? It is such a supportive community. Every single person just wants to see you succeed and heal. For me, I have gained my most cherished friendships through posting wellness content! By sharing my own mental well-being journey, I managed to create this safe space for people to comment or message me which has then led to incredible friendships. The wellness community is truly amazing, all they want to do is cheer you on when you are thriving and hold your hand when you’re struggling. So overall, I say my favourite thing would have to be the support it creates for people who may not have that in their own lives.

@molllyerin I’ll never forget how anxiety took over my whole life and turned me into someone else 🧠 So grateful for @The Shona Project for getting me involved in this x Link in bio to watch the mini anxiety series 🤍 #mentalhealth #anxiety #anxietydisorder #healing ♬ night changes - 🤠

Q: Which TikTok video have you made about mental health that stands out to you as your favourite, and why?
A: Ooo that’s a tough one! I think my favourite had to be when I finally got my diagnosis. It was such a long and tough journey involving so many different doctors and hospitals to simply find out what exact mental health disorder I had. When I finally found out, I recorded my reaction the moment I got back to the car and there were just tears and tears of happiness. A weight had finally come off my shoulders. I was in a very dark place at this point and up until that day, I wasn’t sure how I was going to get through it. That video really captures my genuine relief and actual hope for the future. Sometimes I watch it back to remind myself just how far I have come since that moment :)

Q: What TikTok creators in the wellness or mental health space inspire you the most?
A: I adore all Irish creators in the wellness space but there are a few that stand out to me just as they touch on mental health in a very comforting way include; @soulfullyginger, @siobhaankelly, @nathalielennon

Q: What’s the most rewarding part of being a mental health advocate/creator on TikTok?
A: Helping strangers. The messages and love I receive from sharing my mental health online is just so heartwarming. There are often times I am scared to post certain content just because it’s quite vulnerable. But if opening up about my struggles helps just ONE person, I’ve done my job :)

@molllyerin The best decision I ever made was to come back to studying when I was ready 💛🌿 #teaching #studentteacher #college #collegeadvice ♬ original sound - Molly ☀️💗🏃‍♀️🌿🦋

Q: Have you noticed any trends or changes in how people engage with mental health and wellness content on TikTok?
A: I find people love the raw content when it comes to mental health. I have found that people engage most when creators are genuine in their struggles and in their intentions to spread mental health awareness. They want to see open and honest conversations by real people!

Just your average twenty something year old who is still living her 12 year old life 🌸🌿 There is so much pressure at this age to be living abroad, with a big paying job and a life partner… Screw that, just keep the head up x

Q: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone starting their mental health journey?
A: To anyone starting their mental health journey, my biggest advice is to remember that you have to find what works for YOU. There are so many recommendations out there when it comes to mental health but not everything will work for you. It takes a lot of trial and error to see what suits your body and your mind but it’s worth it. So take the time to try different techniques and coping mechanisms out. Find what works for YOU!
