Join us in celebrating Black History Month as we spotlight some of Ireland’s most talented Black creators! We support #BlackTikTok year-round, but this month we want to take the opportunity to actively highlight Irish Black creators on TikTok like @ogecheese and honour their contribution to Black culture and heritage in Ireland.

Ogechi Izegbune’s content offers a funny and informative guide to travel in Ireland and abroad complete with in-depth food reviews and recommendations for must-try activities, all narrated with her signature hilarious voice-overs. Read more below!

Q: What first inspired you to create on TikTok and why? A: I always found TikTok to be such a fun and open space, where people could be themselves without any filters. It has this vibe where authenticity and originality are celebrated rather than shunned, and that’s what drew me in. I’ve always loved sharing my thoughts, and TikTok felt like a place where I could chat with people as if they were my friends while being unapologetically my talkative self.

Plus, I’m obsessed with food and travel! While I was in college, I got the chance to expand my palate and dive into different cultures, and I wanted to share that experience with others. There were so many places I wanted to try, but no one was really talking about them, so I thought, why not be the one to put them on the map while using my voiceovers to narrate my experiences? Talking is what I do best, and if I can mix that with my love for food and travel, it’s the perfect combination. I get to entertain and inspire people to step out of their comfort zones while doing what I love!

Q: What does Black History Month mean to you?

A: To me, Black History Month means honouring and celebrating the Black people in history who paved the way for so many of us today. It’s not just about remembering the past but exercising my authority in the present to push for more visibility, representation, and change.

I’m inspired by those who look like me, who have overcome obstacles with God by their side while pushing boundaries to create space for more diversity in all areas, specifically in media and content creation. Black History Month is a powerful reminder that our stories matter. It’s a time to shine a light on voices that have often been silenced but deserve to be heard.

For me, it’s also a moment to reflect on my own identity and my role in carrying that legacy forward. As a Black and Irish content creator, I’m driven to contribute to my community by amplifying underrepresented voices and encouraging others to break barriers while staying true to who they are.

This month is more than a celebration. It’s a reminder that we must not only honour our history but embrace the power we hold to inspire, elevate, and create lasting change, not just for ourselves but for the generations to come.

Q: What other Black and Irish creators are on your For You feed?
A: @katja_miaa – Katja is an incredible representation for Black women who aspire to work in the media. Her journey is so inspiring, and she really shows how resilience and dedication can take you far in this industry.
@itsaghogho – Sophie is one of the hardest-working people I’ve ever come across. She has this amazing way of blending content creation while also inspiring people to pursue medicine, which is an art in itself.
@wowcandice – Candice’s fashion sense is out of this world! The way she puts pieces together while staying true to her own unique taste is unmatched. She really knows how to make a statement.
@damihope – Dami’s personality shines through in every piece of content he creates. He’s so creative and talented, and his originality really stands out.
@babyplantainn - Oyinkansola is definitely definitely one to watch in the fashion and beauty space. I love watching her videos because they are vibrant, refreshing and unique.

Q: What is your favourite TikTok you have made to date and why?
A: I have a lot of favourites, but the honourable mention has to be my Wingstop video! I’d been dying to try it, and since we don’t have it in Ireland, I thought, why not normalise travelling just for food? So, I hopped on a Ryanair flight (because, come on, €19.99 flights are there for a reason, right?) just to review it and come straight back! I mean, is the food good because of the quality, or is it all just hype? I’m always on the hunt for answers, and honestly, it makes me feel like an overly enthusiastic FBI agent... but for food LOOL!

Another honourable mention would definitely be my Zanzibar vlog series. I’m a huge fan of travel vlogs, so I had so much fun editing and making those videos. It was real-life entertainment, and I wanted to bring all excitement into my content! And trust me, more travel vlogs are on the way… get ready!

Q: What does it mean to you to be a part of TikTok’s Trailblazer campaign for Black History Month?
A: I’m honestly so honoured to be part of TikTok’s Trailblazer campaign for Black History Month! It’s such a surreal and humbling acknowledgment, and I’m incredibly grateful for it. It feels amazing to be recognised for the effort I pour into my content. But beyond the honour, it’s a reminder of the responsibility I have to represent my community and contribute to the larger conversation around visibility and diversity.

Whether it’s hopping on a plane just to try some new food (because let’s be real, the seasoning hits differently in every country!) or creating travel vlogs that bring my adventures to life, I’m always aiming to push boundaries while staying unapologetically true to myself.

Being part of this campaign is so much more than recognition; it’s about celebrating our stories, our creativity, and the power we have to inspire others. I’m beyond excited to be a part of something that uplifts and shines a light on Black voices, and I can't wait to keep breaking barriers, one video at a time!
