A hashtag challenge launched in partnership with TikTok and The Metropolitan Museum of Art saw three winners embark on a trip to New York to attend this year’s Met Gala. They were one of the first to visit the Spring 2019 Costume Institute exhibition, Camp: Notes on Fashion which was unveiled on 6 May at the museum.

One of the lucky winners Anna, 20, won the #SaluteToClassics hashtag challenge via an audience vote in the TikTok app. She showed off her imitation skills and became the lucky winner from the UK who jetted off to New York last week to attend the prestigious gala.

“I’ve been dreaming of visiting New York for the past 10 years. Now, thanks to you and TikTok it finally came true. Love you all” Anna said.

The hashtag challenge was launched by the museum in partnership with TikTok, brought out the creativity of users and invited users to showcase their best imitation of an artwork scene or act like famous art figures.

The brilliant winning video from Anna showed off her artistic and still life stills, accurately imitating the Portrait of Madame X by John Singer Sargent, set against the backdrop of Beethoven.

In addition to the challenge, the Metropolitan Museum of Art have also launched their own official TikTok channel. The channel will encourage millions of TikTok users to discover the Museum’s exhibitions and it’s 5,000-year collection from around the world.
