We’re thrilled to announce the expansion of our #SaferTogether community campaign! This initiative is all about educating and empowering our community on TikTok to use key safety tools and resources for a more positive experience on TikTok.

Announced at our safety summit in Nairobi, Kenya, this campaign aims to spread awareness and teach community members about our Community Guidelines and safety features, with a series of digestible content by some of our most recognisable creators.

@.lachief In this video, I’m going to show you how to protect your personal information on TikTok. Protecting your privacy on TikTok is a top priority! 🛡️ Here are the rules you need to know: No personal info that could lead to harm is allowed, including stalking, violence, phishing, fraud, or identity theft. 🚫 Keep it safe by not sharing phone numbers, addresses, financial details, login info, or identity docs. TikTok is all about creativity, so focus on sharing positive vibes! ✨ Business contacts and missing person/pet info are exceptions – just make sure to include the right details. Stay safe and have fun creating! 🌟 #HowToTikTok #AfricaRising #LevelUpAfrica ♬ original sound - 𝗟𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝗳

What is the #SaferTogether Campaign?

Initially launched in 2022, the #SaferTogether campaign is a community-driven, collaborative initiative designed to unite various stakeholders such as governments, civil society groups, creators and the wider community in promoting safety on TikTok. We believe that safety is a shared responsibility, and this campaign encourages everyone to do their part. From in-app activities to out-of-app workshops, #SaferTogether aims to engage users and raise awareness about enjoying TikTok safely.

Celebrating The Power of Partnerships in Sub-Saharan Africa

In Kenya, in partnership with Eveminet, TikTok has so far achieved remarkable milestones with its flagship #SaferTogether workshops.

  • Reaching students and youth aged 13 to 24 from secondary schools to universities.
  • Conducting workshops in 26 out of 47 counties across Kenya, these workshops continue to encourage best practices on online platforms.
  • Workshops have also benefitted over 64,000 students, more than 467 parents, and 346 teachers.

As we continue to do more, earlier this year, TikTok announced the official partnership with the African Union Commission's Women, Gender, and Youth Directorate (WGYD) at the inaugural TikTok Safer Internet Summit in Ghana. This partnership will help deliver digital literacy programmes across Africa, guiding young people and their caregivers on how to diversify their livelihoods using digital platforms, in a safe and engaging way.

Community Guidelines & Safety Features: The Backbone of Our Safety Efforts

Our Community Guidelines are the foundation of our safety efforts. They set the standard for acceptable behaviour and content, ensuring that everyone can express themselves freely and creatively while staying protected. These guidelines cover a wide range of topics, including hate speech, harassment, and misinformation. They are continuously updated to address emerging safety concerns and evolving digital behaviours. By adhering to these guidelines, users contribute to a respectful and positive community, where creativity and interaction can thrive without fear of abuse or exploitation.

We care about our community's safety while using the app. That’s why we provide several safety tools and resources that allow you to control privacy preferences and access content that's most relevant or appropriate for you or your family. Some of these features include:
