Can you tell us about yourself and what inspired you to start creating content in Swahili?

My name is Abdulkarim, and I hold a Bachelor of Education Science degree. While volunteering as a student mentor at Huda Integrated School in Nairobi in 2017, I noticed students struggling with Swahili and feeling excluded. Passionate about the language, I created a YouTube channel to help them better learn the language which grew in popularity. I later expanded my content to TikTok, where my Swahili lessons gained a large following and continue to help many people learn the language globally.

How do you leverage TikTok to raise awareness and educate the community about Swahili?

I have been creating engaging educational Swahili content on the platform, including language challenges and practical tips. Collaborations with other creators and organizations have helped expand our reach and raise awareness about the importance of Swahili in daily communication.
