TikTok and TOUCH Cyber Wellness Launch Family Digital Check-In Guide to Support Safer Digital Habits at Home

TikTok is committed to helping teens discover what they love, learn new things, and express themselves creatively. In support of Singapore's Digital for Life movement and building on the 2025 'Our Digital Journey' initiative, TikTok today launched the Family Digital Check-In Guide — a practical digital wellness playbook developed in collaboration with TOUCH Cyber Wellness. From Left: Shem Yao, Head of TOUCH Cyber Wellness; Dr. Natalie Pang, Head of the Department of Communications and New Media at the National University of Singapore; David Cai, Public Policy Leader, TikTok Singapore; Mdm Rahayu Mahzam, Minister of State for Digital Development and Information; Joanna Lam, Cluster Director, Digital Readiness Cluster, IMDA; KahnJi Siriprapa Weerachaising, Outreach & Partnerships Manager, TikTok Trust & Safety; Denise Teo, TikTok creator (@supercatkei)Officially unveiled by Guest of Honour Madam Rahayu Mahzam, Minister of State for Digital Development and Information, the guide aims to help families reflect on their digital habits and take practical steps toward safer online experiences together.Navigating digital safety togetherRecognising that every teen and family navigates the digital world differently, the initiative encourages open conversations over one-way lectures. To support families in everyday moments, the initiative is anchored by two key components:Family Digital Check-In Guide: A printable toolkit designed to help families reflect on their digital habits and agree on practical safety boundaries together. It includes an overview of TikTok's safety features, self-discovery profiles to explore different digital styles, and conversation prompts to encourage shared understanding and safer online experiences.Interactive Digital Hub: The online hub for the initiative, offering a simplified, mobile-friendly version of the guide. It serves as an accessible entry point to TikTok's safety features and includes an informational video by creator Denise Teo (@supercatkei), which shares an honest and relatable look at how Singaporean parents and teens navigate digital safety in everyday life. The video is set for release on the hub following the official launch event."For many families today, digital life is no longer separate from everyday life — it’s where young people learn, socialise, create, and discover who they are," said Ms. KahnJi Siriprapa Weerachaising, Outreach & Partnerships Manager at TikTok Trust & Safety. "That’s why building healthier digital habits requires more than rules alone. It requires open conversations, mutual understanding, and practical tools that families can explore together. In partnership with TOUCH Cyber Wellness and in support of IMDA's Digital for Life Movement, we hope to support Singaporean families with practical resources that make those conversations feel more approachable and relevant."From Left: KahnJi Siriprapa Weerachaising, Outreach & Partnerships Manager, TikTok Trust & Safety; Shem Yao, Head of TOUCH Cyber Wellness; Dr. Natalie Pang, Head of the Department of Communications and New Media at the National University of Singapore; Denise Teo, TikTok creator (@supercatkei)The launch also featured a panel discussion titled "Navigating Our Digital World Together," moderated by KahnJi Siriprapa Weerachaising. The session brought diverse perspectives from Shem Yao, Head of TOUCH Cyber Wellness; Denise Teo (@supercatkei), Content Creator; and Dr. Natalie Pang, Head of the Department of Communications and New Media at the National University of Singapore. The discussion highlighted how digital wellness requires a shared effort across government, industry, educators, creators, and families. Key takeaways included:Resilience over restrictions: Dr. Natalie Pang emphasised the importance of helping young people build digital resilience — equipping them with the confidence and skills to navigate online spaces safely and independently.Curiosity over judgment: Denise Teo emphasised the importance of approaching digital conversations with curiosity rather than criticism. When adults invite young people to share about the latest online trends, it transforms the conversation into a shared learning journey — one where the digital experience is navigated together, not in isolation.Ongoing dialogue, not a one-time lecture: Shem Yao's message to families was simple but powerful: just be curious. Digital wellness is an ongoing journey, and every conversation, however small, is a step in the right direction.Following the launch, a series of 'Our Digital Journey: The Community Edition' workshops will be rolled out starting from July in Bukit-Batok East, and will train more than 100 parents and teens.A unified community commitmentThe initiative reflects TikTok's ongoing commitment to working alongside government agencies and community partners to support healthier and safer digital experiences in Singapore.Mr. Shem Yao, Head of TOUCH Cyber Wellness, said: "At TOUCH, we have seen that many parents genuinely want to support their children online, but may not always know how to start those conversations in a way that feels open and constructive. The Family Digital Check-In Guide was designed to help make digital wellness a more natural part of everyday family life — encouraging families to move beyond restriction toward greater trust, understanding, and shared learning. We are proud to partner with TikTok to provide practical tools that help parents and youths navigate the digital world together."Building healthier digital habits togetherTeen accounts on TikTok have more than 50 different preset safety features and settings designed just for the safety and privacy of teens, including private accounts, content restrictions, and daily screen time limits set to 60 minutes. Knowing that every teen and family is different, the Family Digital Check-In Guide complements TikTok's Safety Center resources, including the Guardian's Guide and Teen Safety Center, to give Singaporean families a localised tool that helps set positive digital boundaries together.Families can access and download the Family Digital Check-In Guide via the TikTok Singapore Digital Hub here. It is also accessible within the TikTok app, when users search for digital safety-related terms.
